4 <br /> MASHPEE SCHOOL COMMITTEE - REGULAR MEETING - S EPTEMBER 3, 1997 PAGE 2 <br /> 9.4 Shannon Lee Proposal — Dr, DeMoura explained Miss Lee's <br /> proposal wherein she questions if responsible high school student <br /> could volunteer to assist teachers in Grades K-3 during after- <br /> school hours. She notes that high school students are out of <br /> school 1-1 2 hours before the K-3 grades and at that time could <br /> offer their assistance in the classroom. She said this idea carne <br /> about after the Student Government Darr last year. she thought <br /> perhaps the high school students could offer them- ssista ce once <br /> eek or once a month <br /> Dr. DeMoura said transportation from the high school to the <br /> elementary schools would be provided but the.students would be <br /> required to obtain their oven rues home. <br /> Mrs. hills thought the idea was great and asked for more student <br /> volunteers along with Miss Lee. High School Principal Mr. <br /> Williams will screen out interested students before placing in the <br /> elementary schools. <br /> Motion Trude by Mrs. Cook, seconded by Mr. Paxton, to approve <br /> Shannon Lee's after-school volunteer Proposal for Grades K-3. <br /> NOTE: Unanimous <br /> IV. Mrs. Lynch ommended Assistant Principal/Athletic Director <br /> lents Donald Book for his efforts last year in doing all the Athletic <br /> Director's responsibilities while at the. same time handling the <br /> Assistant Principal duties. <br /> Mrs. Lynch also acknowledged School Facilities Supervisor Don <br /> Cook and the custodians who worked so diligently to finish the <br /> ting work_that needed to be completed at the Quashnet Schools <br /> before school began. They did a wondrful job! <br /> Dr. DeMoura thanked Midas Muffler for their generous donation of <br /> car seats that are now required by law for younger children while <br /> in school vehicles. The school Department will continue to seek <br /> car- seat donations. A thank you letter- will be sent to Midas <br /> Muffler for their generosity. <br /> V. Commumications There were no School Committee communications this <br /> evening. <br />
