MAS P E SCHOOL COMMITTEE - REGULAR MEETING - SEPTEMBER 3, 1997 PAGE <br /> Dr. DeMoura announced that Michael Horne has been named as <br /> the athletic director for grades -1 . <br /> .1.2 Instrumental Teacher - Dr. DeMoura recommended <br /> reinstituting the instrumental program in grades 4-6 with <br /> authorization not to exceed $20,000. Also, the School <br /> Department Will go out to laid for this school year for instrumental <br /> lessons and the results will be announced at the October meeting. <br /> 8.1.3 Transfer ofFunds - Discussion followed on the transfer <br /> funds memorandum. After much discussion, it was decided that <br /> Dr. DeMoura Will rework the transfers to include the athletic <br /> director's stipend and the instrumental lessons. Also, it was <br /> suggested to invent a fothat is easier to read. Dr. DeMoura will <br /> do this. <br /> i <br /> .1 Project Adventure - Coombs School Principal Nick Feldman <br /> presented an overview ofthis concept wherein Coombs School <br /> psychologist Anne Bradley could conduct a program at the Grade <br /> level that incorporates positive elementary in the areas of health, <br /> physical education and guidance. The funding would cone from <br /> the Coombs School student activities account. The program would <br /> e conducted during physical education or health classes. <br /> Dr-. DeMoura recommended approval. <br /> Motion made by Mr. Paxton, seconded by Mrs. cook, to approve <br /> Prod ec t Adventure. <br /> Mrs. Lynch asked about holding this program at the other schools. <br /> Mrs. Bradley said she is doused at the Coombs School and works <br /> part-time. Dr. DeMoura said this is a pilot program and the <br /> principals can hold similar programs at their- respective schools. <br /> Mrs. Lynch expressed concern over the staffing ratio. <br /> NOTE; Unanimous <br /> 8.1.4 Saturday School - Dr. Dellouraa outlined the Saturday <br /> School concept and stated a vote would be needed for the job <br /> description as well as the program itself. <br />
