MASHPEE PUBLIC SCHOOLS
SPECIAL MEETING
JANUARY 20, 19 9
Minot
Attendees: Chairwoman an Kathleen Lynch, Theresa cook, Maryanne Macdonald, Janice
Mills, and Stephen Paxton. Also in attendance was Superintendent ofSchools Br,
Lincoln A. DeMoura and Town Planner F. 'Thomas F dal .
The meeting was called to order at 7:03 p.m. ley Mrs. Lynch in high school room B 103.
Tonight's meeting was called to meet jointly with Town Planner Tom Fudala to discuss
the school facilities portion of the Comprehensive Plan. In reviewing the "'Town of
Mashpee - Comprehensive Plan", Mrs. Lynch noted a discrepancy wherein it states
that the high school would eventually accommodate 1,350 students. The high school
was built to acc mmodate 1,180 students, thus indicating 1,3 50 is misleading. Mr.
F'udala will make that correction.
Mrs. Mills brought up relocating the Superintendent's office, currently housed in the
high school, to a permanent location in to m. Discussion followed on possible sites.
The Committee brainstormed on making the Quashnet Schools into a "middle school"
while the coombs School would house grades K-6 with the construction of another
elementary school to house grades K-6.
Mrs. Lynch read aloud a letter from the school Councils inviting the School Committee
to a j oint meeting. Possible meeting dates were February 10, February 11 or February
2 , 1998. However, after consulting with the School Committee, Mrs. Lynch noted
those dates were not convenient with all members. Therefore, two other slates were
suggested by the school Committee - March 9 at :00 p.m. or February 11, 1998.
Mrs. Lynch will send a letter to the School councils suggesting these dates.
On a motion by Mrs. Mills, seconded by Mrs. cool, the special meeting of the school
Conunitte adjourned at :00 p.m.
VOTE: Unanl ou
Respectfully submitted,
Marjorie R. Bvclu
School Committee secretary
