MASHPEE PUBLIC SCHOOLS <br /> PUBLIC HEARING <br /> FY99 BUDGET <br /> Minutes <br /> ttendees: Chairwoman Theresa Cook, Stephen Paxton, Maryanne Macdonald, Kathleen <br /> Lynch, and Janice Mills. Also in attendance was Superintendent of Schools Dr. Lincoln A. <br /> DeMoura. <br /> 1. <br /> Call Public Mrs. Cook called the FY99 Budget Public Hearing to order at <br /> Hearing to Order 7:34 p.m. in high school room B 103. <br /> I. Reading of Mrs. Cook read aloud the "Notice of Public Hearing." <br /> Public Notice <br /> II. Presentation by Dr. DeMoura outlined the FY99 budget noting that every single <br /> Superintendent line item has been discussed since last year when FY99 budget <br /> discussions began with the Board of Selectmen and Finance <br /> Committee liaisons. He said the proposed budget of $11,600,000 <br /> includes the addition of Grade 11, elementary teachers at the <br /> Quashnet Valley and Quashnet River Schools, additional sports for <br /> varsity activities, variety of texts at the high school and elementary <br /> schools. <br /> Public Input Quashnet Valley Principal Robert Tippo asked for a remedial <br /> reading program be placed back into the budget at the elementary <br /> level. Mrs. Parolski explained the Title I remedial reading program <br /> in Grades 1, 2, and 3, however, there is not enough money to <br /> support a fourth teacher. <br /> At this point, Mrs. Lynch suggested scheduling a budget meeting <br /> before the end of this fiscal year. That date was set for <br /> Wednesday, June 24, 1998 at 7:00 p.m. in high school room <br /> B103. <br /> Discussion then continued on the remedial reading program. <br /> Discussion Mr. Paxton asked the status of the state funding issue. Dr. <br /> DeMoura said he feels confident that Mashpee will receive more <br /> funding than originally thought. Mrs. Cook stated that in <br /> discussions with Representative Tom Cahir, more monies than <br /> expected will be forwarded to the town. <br />
