Mr. Lehrer added that,
given construction costs and permitting, such developments were becoming costlier, making
density, walkability, access, sustainability and transportation more desirable. Drafting a master
plan that would identify Mashpee's priorities related to housing production, could help to
identify the best grant partners such as Complete Streets, Seaport Economic Council, MassDOT
and Land & Park Grant programs.
Mr. Lehrer noted that, based on feedback from the community and a recent passing of a
Complete Streets Policy, he would suggest seeking funding this year from Complete Streets, and
MassWorks for affordable housing. Housing Choice designation also offered $2 million in
technical assistance funding for projects such as visioning, planning or feasibility studies around
certain parcels or projects. Mr. Lehrer also noted that the Housing Choice Grant had been
created and would be available only to the 69 designated communities. Mr. Lehrer stated that
the grant would open for applications at the end of the month, likely due in August or September.
Mr. Abbott inquired whether any acquired funds would be provided to the Affordable Housing
Trust and Mr. Lehrer responded that he was unsure but would find out and notify the Chair. Mr.
Abbott noted that developers considering 950 Falmouth Road would be interested in knowing
Mashpee's contribution and Mr. Lehrer responded that shovel ready projects would be the best
candidate for grant funds. Mr. Lehrer noted that there was a waiver available for a town match.
Mr. Lehrer indicated that he would be happy to return to the Committee as timelines and more
information became available. Mr. Lehrer will be meeting with other departments to learn about
other potential projects that could benefit from funding.
