MASHPEE SCHOOL COMMITTEE <br /> JOINT MEETING WITH BOARD OF SELECTMEN AND FINANCE COMMITTEE i <br /> MARCH 1 ,2002 <br /> Minutes <br /> Attendees: School Committee — Chairwoman Theresa Cool, Ben Caswell, Mollie Reis and Peter <br /> Thomas. Janice Mills was absent this evening. Also in attendance were Superintendent ofSchools <br /> Sherwood Fluery and Business Administrator Michael Tarl ow. <br /> Board of Selectmen — Chairman John Cahalane, Kenneth Marsters, Wayne Taylor, and George "Chucki " <br /> Green. David Leveille was absent this evening. Also in attendance were Town Administrator Joyce Mason <br /> and Town Accountant Diane Rommelmeyer. <br /> Finance Committee — Chairman Jeffry Arnold, Dean Arden, Frederic Blythe, Kathleen Lynch, James <br /> Morgan,and Carlton Meredith. <br /> Mrs. Cools called the School Committee to order at 6:03 p.m. in the Selectmen's. Meeting Room in Town <br /> Hall. <br /> Tonight's joint meeting focused on the School Department's FY03 budget. <br /> Mr. Arnold discussed the possibility of a 5%-10%reduction in Chapter 70 funds and its impact on the total <br /> Town budget. <br /> The Finance Committee maintained their previously-voted on figure of $16,472,000 for the School <br /> Department while the Selectmen did not have a recommended budget figure at this time. <br /> 4D <br /> After much discussion, a School Committee motion was made by Mr. Caswell, seconded by Mr. Thomas, t <br /> recommend an FY03 budget of$16,472,000. <br /> VOTE: Unanimous <br /> Mrs. Mason recommended a budget of$16,200,000 and Mrs. Cook countered stating that if that is the final <br /> figure, then major programs will be cut. The School Department has made cuts as far as they can without <br /> affecting programs,but with Mrs. Mason's recommendation,these programs will be eliminated. <br /> After more discussion regarding the possibility of deferring the Capital Improvement projects until the <br /> October Town Meeting so ars additional$200,000 be given to the school's budget,a motion was made by Mr. <br /> Caswell, seconded by Mr. Thomas,to approve a bottom line FY03 F03budget figure of 16,400,000. <br /> VOTE: Unanimous <br /> After the above School Committee vote was taken, the Selectmen and Finance Committee also voted t <br /> recommend an F 03 budget of$16,400,000 for the School Department. <br /> Motion made by Mr.Caswell, seconded by Mr. Thomas,to adjourn the joint meeting at 6:50 p.m. <br /> VOTE: Unanimous <br /> Respectfully submitted, <br /> Marjorie R.
