Selectman I larsters: well, I myself have been doing my hom' ework. I know what
sovereign nation means, and it simply means a go ermment to
governnnent relationship that leaves the town out of the loop.
And, I don't think anybody can disagree with that.
Selectman Cahalane: ...I'm saying that if we bring Dale and Torr down, we've spent
over $40,000 (over the last few years) on them already, so let's not
talk expenses to bring them down...but I mean, let's not talk
expense to bring them down...
Selectman Reveille: I'm not so sure that Hale and Torr is the appropriate vehicle.
Selectman Cahalane: They are our lagers. If we can't ask the people who are
representing us, and supposedly advising us, who do we ask?
Selectman l laxsters; well, we have a limited timetable dere, The timetable has been
pushed up by the Tribal Council. Everyday that goes b , if we
don't cone up and give an opinion, it's another nation, actually,
another town unheard of. I know what sovereign nation means and
we can have our attorneys come down here and tell us exactly what
I know, but I'm not going to change my mind. I've studied it. I've
studied it hard because it's a big issue for the townspeople. I think
that if you feel comfortable about taking a vote tonight terms of
whether or not sovereign nation or not...
Selectman Cahalane: I think that we would be more comfortable bringing our lawyers
down.., I really do.
Selectman Reveille. I think that there are two issues, I really do. I thunk we have over
the last three years, three years plus pretty much educated
ourselves on what it means...believe it I mean.. I have a file on
this...
Selectman Cahalane: Self educated David, I have to...I just want to make a statement. I
have never seem one lawyer face to face from Hale and Torr. I
think that is the least we can do,.
Selectman Leveille: Okay, that is true. Ret me finish.what I was going to say, and then
I will respond to that. I feel like this board has pretty much
educated itself as to what is going on. we do owe and want to
have some sort of forum. I thunk we absolutely need to have that
for the public, whether.nt consists of lawyers or whoever it is, some
form of forum to educate the public as to what this means as-well.
