S June 26, 1997 6 BOARD HEALTH <br /> Food Borne Illness - Popponesset Inn <br /> Mr. Evans relayed, "We received a report from the Department of Public Health <br /> on a food borne illness that occurred at the Popponesset Inn. ' "They wanted us to do <br /> investigations which we did." "we vent through Popponesset Inn and the New Seabury <br /> Country Club." <br /> Mr. McQuaid stated, "The event was a five day conference meeting with 160 <br /> people." "They ate not only at the Popponesset Inn but at the Mews Conference Center <br /> and the New Seabury.Country Club." "of the 35 people that contacted the D.P.H. we <br /> didn't receive one call here at the office." "lone of there shoved a commonality food. <br /> item eaten to trigger a determination of an outbreak,of food borne illness." ` Some of the <br /> people who claimed to become ill, one person in particular was a vegetarian and ate <br /> p <br /> nothing but steamed vegetables through her_ entire stay and when the group got back to <br /> their headquarters outside of Boston one the Monday following their conference, three or <br /> four people called in sick the next day and they had not attended the conference." `eft is <br /> upsetting to me the I .P.H. would send me a fax. and the cover letter to the fax. states <br /> Food Borne Illness Popponesset Inn." "They can't make that determination based on the <br /> information available but yet they want us to go through the process of having the food <br /> handlers at both the Popponesset Inn and the New Seabury Country Club provide stool <br /> samples." "We think it may have been a viral infection that was spread and not a <br /> bacterial infection." "The County slid help us out with the stoolsampling." <br /> Mr. Evans relayed, "I did Perform inspections at both locations and found <br /> everything in compliance other than minor infractions." <br /> Board members acknowledged the information. <br /> ciuest from Seleciperson Caffire: 1 Meeting with Bill Fisher <br /> Mr. McQuaid relayed, "Ms. Caffyn is pushing for a meetin with Bill Fisher who <br /> works for an environmental consulting f"rrrn out of Colorado that she has contacted to <br /> study the J. Br on Thompson contamination plume." "Ms. Mason also contacted nye to <br /> arrange a meeting for Jinn Maxx from Weston & Sampson to discuss his review of the <br /> Augat plume."
