NffNUTES April 18, 1996 5 BOARD of HEALTH Mr. Doherty relayed, "We have a public relations problem here, if not a natural health concern.'1Y IAV have public perception to deal Frith." '"Everyone wants to know i it's safe in the pond, is it safe to eat fish taken from the pond." `obviously, the real answer is beyond the scope and capability of this Board so we have to turn to you and ask what's going on." Mr. Minior stated, "'As far as, stone drain 5 goes we believe it's been in John's pond and it's been in the pond for a number of years but you can't document it with any of the s ars lin that"s been done." "Now Ashumt Pond with the chemical spill 10, we don't know because we only just recently found out that it was right at the waters edge.1� "Now, does that mean it's under the pond, we don't know." `we're doing some extensive computer modeling now to try and predict where it will be and that's why we talked about installing some wells on the southeast side to check where it is.'' "There are two different grains of thought as to whether it's actually coming into the pond or it s just some I have to verify and that's being looked at right now going underneath but it is as t how we can plan that activity out. "'W should have some modeling reports available hopefally, in the next month to show us a better picture of what we might anticipate." Mr. McQuaid stated, "We intend to continue sampling." "We asked your predecessor a few years ago if the military could afford to help offset the costs of that sampling however, we never received an.answer." Mr. Minior relayed, `'If you take e the samples, I will send there out to a laboratory that we have a contract with, it's either New England Testing or Barnstable County.51 44I have a mechanism in place right now where I can just send samples out to them and have them analyzed." "we would be happy to do that if you would continue to take the samples, then turn thein over to Marty Acre and let him know when it is going to be so he can do the paperwork ahead of time and we'll have them analyzed for you."" Board members agreed to accept the offer. Mr. Ball commented, `'Could we have that offer in writing'7" 11r. Minior stated, "Yes."
