Elizabeth Simpson, Mrs , Sim son asked
- the Board about Mrs . Rol .ins{ being present at the previous week' s meet.
ing. She felt that her asking for a non-referendum question to be put
on the Ballot on May 10, 1980, was out of order ,inasmuch as she i -
Attorney for the New Seabury Corporation, and Mrs. Simoson feels that
what they are trying to do is to get a feel -as to how the community will
react to this in pushing towards the State rescinding the A CE.
Mr. Benway stated that it can only be rescinded by a Town Meeting
and acted upon by the Commission, and that Mrs. Rollins came in as an
individual, and not as th Attorney for the New ea ur 'Corporation.
Mrs . Simpson stated that in view of the fact that New Seabury knows that
nothing- can be' done until the year is. up on the ACEC designation, it was
inappropriate . Mr, Benway stated that once the year is up, it can be
reviewed and unless people come before the Board and say we have problems ,
,
and want an article in the Town warrant and say this should be removed.
Mrs , Simpson stated that at the end of one year they, New Seahury, could
get a petition together and feels they are dumping the gun on this matter.
Mr. Hollander asked if the Town warrant was closed in February, how
come this is on the warrant? Mr. Benway stated it is not on the warrant,
but the question will be on the ballot, and he hopes that 12 to 1300
o
. people will come out to vote on this issue. -
Mrs, DeLore was recognized and announced she had a letter from the
Conservation Committee to be signed by the Selectmen regarding their
position on the environment plan that New Seabury has. put together, Chem.
O' Connell at this point took a few minutes to review the whole issue of
South Cape Beach, beginning in the year 1967 up to the present time.
Mrs-. Belore then asked the Selectmen h#ow they standon the issue,
positive or negative . Chin. O'Connell stated that his attitude remains ,,
unless he is told otherwise, he must support the action of the Town and
keep an open mind. His concern is for the ocean and marshland more than
the upland.
Mr. Benway stated that he has faith in the statq -and also with a developer
who is obviously going to turn a. profit over in the land, but must follow
the rules. He will wait for the outcome of the meeting on Wednesday even-
ing, and may not take a public stand. There will be questions and he feels
that the hest way to get the most people in Mashpee to express heir views *
We will have to live with it e.i the r way.
Mr, Hollander stated that none of the land has increased in value .
Chm. O' Connell stated that appraisals. have gone up and head front property
now has a very high value. the appraisal gree gears ago was 2 to 3
million, and what the figure will be now we don' t know.
