we experience all the time. We wait 2 or 3 weeks
to get something that should have been out a week
ago. That' s what we 've got right now. Give it
sometime . Let I s see what the state comes back
with and then you can all review it.
VOTER: I cane in a little late and I may not be aware of
everything that was said before I got here but
I 'm under the impression that tonight you can
not give a final answer regarding this.
'CHAI MAN: That' s true.'
VOTER: Now you keep saying that the final decision is
left to the Selectmen. When the selectmen were
putt in office, they were put in there to serve
the Town* The Town being the people in the Town,
and if you had the majority of a vote at the
last Town Meeting, I don' t see how there can be
any other way than to go the way the voters wanted
you to. Th.at' s,-ypur job to serve the people in
this Town.
'CHAIRMAN: I have no problem with that.
SELECTMAN GARLAND: I don' t think that there is a person on this Board
that has. not said that they will s i gn a document.
I think that there is a feeling 'here that perhaps
our word is being doubted. We have all sat here
and we have all said that ' if this document is cleared
y the Attorney General' s office as being proper and
without error, it will be signed'. I think we have
been very clear on that statement.
VOTER: Yes, but you ]peep saying that the Selectmen have
the 'final decision' .
SELECTMAN GARLAND: You have just heard us . Now is our word to you
not .good enough?
VOTE : The 'voters should have the final decision.
CHAIRMAN: Well I thinly we have explained it from the two sides.
There is a legal side of it and the intent of Town
Meeting by the motion that was voted. There was a
very specific motion referring to a very specific
document. That" s what we are waiting for. ' We. have
to have in front of us before we take the vote.
Otherwise, we don' t know ghat' i t refers to.'
VOTE : So you are asking us to hang in there for 2 or
weeks or whatever.
SELECTMAN AR ND. We are not asking you. The Commonwealth is asking
us to hold our vote in obeyance. We can not sign
a blank sheet of paper which I think the 'general
sense of the people here tonight is that they want
us to sign something,, We 'do not have the document
 -
