Thomas felt it would be a worthwhile addition for the Police
Department. The Chief pointed out that as activities change, their
equipment has to change, too. He pointed out that when you get a
case where the suspect has been mixing drugs and booze, he can't
be reasoned with.
The Selectmen agreed to approve this- weapon for purchase,
The Chief is preparing a letter recommending the Motorola radio for
purchase. Chm. Garland asked him if he has given any more thought
to his suggestion of a five year replacement program. The Chief is
considering it. Chm. 'Garland stated there are a number of isolated
areas out there, and he i s. concerned for the safety of the men; he
feels a dependable radio is essential. It was
suggested that he check with the county to find out what that- is
about.
The Chief reported that his department had received a call onSatur-
day evening from a party names Sullivan - there have been three calls
recently from the same party. This was a legitimate call, but on
each of the three occasions , the men have been greeted with abusive
Language by the lady of the house. Each time they have gotten the
same reception, i..e. "come on in you idiots" . They responded in the
normal amount of time, according to the Chief - but these residents
live a long distance from the station. Upon receiving this report
from his men, Chief Gould called the home and spoke to the husband,
who said it wouldn't happen again, and apologized. The Chief was in-
forming the Selectmen.. in case they should hear any more about it,
Chief Gould informed the Selectmen that regretabl y, they had lost a
maxi over the week-end, a 55 year old mars who was playing tennis , had
a heart attack and apparently succombed before they arrived.
