Mtge 8/25/81
Page 20
On the subject of inspection of rental units , the Building Inspector
has been asking for sometime for regulations that could he enforced.
Glom. Garland stated that he would like to see the language tightened
up, sei, Thomas stated that she had copied Falmouth's regulations ,
but that they could he charged and adapted as anyone else would like
to make them. The Executive Secretary asked if he should send them
to Town Counsel for review asby-law additions? The Selectmen agreed
that this' would be a good idea, thea they should go to the Planning
Board. Sel# Thomas stated that what the wilding Inspector would like
to see is a onj'Lngby-law on this subject,, It was pointed out that
this should be done at an Annual Town Meeting then, and you have to
allow 90 days after that for the Attorney General 's office to approve.
This would mean losing 'another year of rental time without requiring
the desired inspections.
On the subject of 'vehicles for town use, the Health Agent will be
getting the Datsun. The Building Inspector badly needs a vehicle; he
is presently required to take his own car into areas which only
tank should be asked to traverse. Chin. Garland stated that the Chief
of Police says there is one up there that' s been there for three years,
but there are no papers on it. The chief' s vehicle needs a new front
end. There are still some problems getting repairs dome.
el: 'Thomas said if Medeiros isn't working out satisfactorily, and he
hasn't served his 6 months of probationary period, maybe something should
be done about it, and we should advertise for a Town mechanic and make
him an assistant. The Executive Secretary said he has heard complaints
from the Fire Dept. , but that ledei.ros ' Department Head says he's doing
a fire job. we have to rely on the employee' s department head to stake
recommendation.
hm. Garland asked if all departments have set up maintenance programs?
Mr. Murphy responded that 'this 'is being done. The Fire Dept, has dome
so; Highway Dept. is doing so now. He will check on their progress ,
and will also cheek on the Police Dept. Gordon seems to he doing good
work for the Fire Department, but the Executive Secretary feels he
should back off -on his criticism of previous work done on their -equip-.
meat, as he had a part . in that, too.
8 Regarding Dr. Lewis ' report on Firefighter Chase, the Selectmen feel he
he should be asked to submit a complete report on the physical examina-
tion he performed.
Regarding the change in the Fire Dept. personnel proposal from Lieutenant
to shift Commander, the Executive Secretary asked if a definite decision
had been made. The Selectmen indicated there had been no final de-
cision,
e-
cisio ., and they would like a full-board discussion on that matter,
Dotes by Grace Erdman
