JO <br /> ADMINISTRATIVE MEETING <br /> i <br /> December 2 , 1981 <br /> Present: Chairman Chester A. Garland, Sed.. D. Jean Thomas , and Ex Cu-. <br /> tive Secretary Joseph F. Murphy, Jr. <br /> 1. Discussion regarding the portable classrooms that the School Gom- <br /> cmittee has voted to turn over to the Selectmen (Town) , Chairman <br /> Garland asked if there were seperate walls in the two adjoining <br /> classrooms at the end of 'down Hall, or .if there was one common wall? <br /> He stated this should be determined before going out to bid. Mr. <br /> Murphy said this information will have to be included- in the specs that <br /> will bep r ared bar the School Committee, who is asking - to have one of <br /> � <br /> the classrooms moved to Middle School for the purpose of storing <br /> athletic equipment, The Selectmen gave the go-ahead to have this ,issue <br /> placed on tomorrow' s agenda. <br /> Regarding the letter from HUD pertaining to the museum,, Sel, Thomas <br /> stated that we need new tour guides ; our two 'guides of the past are <br /> no longer available. The Selectmen are pleased to receive this <br /> communication from UD; it is not necessary to place it on the agenda. <br /> Regarding the proposal of Malone and Tandler for the Town' s Cash work- <br /> .out, <br /> ork- <br /> .out, Mr, Murphy stated that in his initial approach to the 'Finance <br /> mm <br /> Conittee, they are uns ympathetic'. No formal request- has been mach to <br /> them for the transfer of Reserve Funds * Sel. Thomas asked if the <br /> Finance Committee might be agreeable to having the Selectmen attend <br /> one of their meetings to explain why the Selectmen feel this action is <br /> necessary? Perhaps the Selectmen could persuade them, Ch . Garland <br /> oil stated that the only alternative is to call a Special Town Meeting and <br /> ask the voters to approve the expenditure of the funds * He, too, would <br /> like to. meet with the FinCom, as soon as possible, as he feels some <br /> action of this nature is essential for the Town. It was also pointed <br /> out that additional funds may be needed for the Legal and Engineering <br /> Account. <br /> SELECTMEN 'S REPORTS <br /> S <br /> a 1 m. Garland reported that he had received a call from Earl Master , <br /> who -feels that those employees involved in the suit should have their <br />! employment suspended until the suit is settled.' <br /> Mr. Murphy said he is recommending that all questions be held until <br /> r there is a meeting with Couhsel. He pointed out that those who say <br /> they want to have their names removed from the suit bear the respon iL <br /> bility for doing so. <br /> Atty., Iiirsner called to state the meeting scheduled for 9 : 00 a.m, <br /> this Friday will not be convenient for some who are scheduled to <br /> attend. The Selectmen suggested moving the- meeting I til< 2: 00 that., <br /> day; they do not want it postponed beyond that date,. <br /> 2 Regarding changing the closing hour for liquor establishments , the <br /> Eecutive Secretary has asked the Police Chief for documentation that <br /> night provide hard proof that a gre-ater number of acciLdents are <br /> caused by the later closing hour. Sel. Thomas reported that she had <br /> reviewed the tape recording Town Counsel's advice on the ratter, and <br /> that the words "public isgood" kept coming up. <br />
