BOARD OF SELECTMEN
MEM
TO: BOARD of s L CTME
FROM: XECUTI E SECRETARY
DATE; DECEMBER 11r 1981
RE: PRINTING of TOWN REPORTS
Attached is a summary of the Bids for Town Reports
In evaluating the bidders , I have discussed the prior per-
formance of Rene Press with several Selectmen ' s Offices. our office
has obtained evaluations of Rene Press ' performance from Brewster,
Lexington, Lincoln, Medfield, Lunenbur g, Holden , Southborough, and
Weston. I find that, while there have been complaints regarding
the performance of Rene Press , many of the problems that have re-
sulted
-sulted in other Towns are addressed in our very tight contract and
bonding requirements. In any opinion, the Town does not have.
sufficient reason to justify taking any other bid but the lowest one.
I recognize .that Lu can Press is the next to lowest bidder,
and in ray opinion (after working with three other printing firms on
Town Reports) was the most cooperative and most professional that I
have experienced.
I recomunend that the Board accept the bid of Rene Press to print
the I+ ashpee Torn Report with a black and white cover for $3 ,200. We
have a total of $5 , 000 available in this account. Having a 4 color
cover on the Town Report would cast an additional $500. While this
would be more esthetically pleasing, I would prefer spending $500 on
essential public services. The balance of the money available in the
account ($1,800 ) would revert to the General. Treasury, and would b
used in the computation of our Free cash as of July 1, 1982 .
