Frye, Chief of Police <br /> RE: Proposed Street Lighting By-Law <br /> ARTICLE: To see if the Town will vote to adopt the following Street Lighting/ <br /> Public Safety Standards By-Law <br /> "Before the Town shall vote to approve the installation of any new street lighting <br /> or funds for the maintenance of a new street light, the matter shall first be referred <br /> to the Police Chief at least sixty (60) days before said Town meeting for advice <br /> and recommendation. The Police Chief shall forward his advice and recommendation <br /> to the Selectmen within ten (10) days of the receipt of the request. " <br /> In formulating his advice and recommendation, the Police Chief shall consider <br /> the following criteria: <br /> 1 . Street lighting for major intersections where well-travelled access roads <br /> , <br /> meet or cross main thoroughfares. <br /> 2. Street lighting where private and public roads intersect, and where there <br /> is a history or obvious danger of pedestrian or vehicular mishaps, which can <br /> be directly attributed to a lack of adequate street lighting. <br /> 3. Street lighting for public roads where blind or dangerous curves or in- <br /> tersections jeopardize public safety. <br /> 4. Street lighting for municipal building parking areas, or to be installed <br /> by the roadside in front of a municipal building where the vehicular and <br /> pedestrian safety of employees and the public will be served. <br /> ' For purposes of these standards, a municipalbuilding is defined as any <br /> building owned or maintained by the Town of Mashpee for conducting Town <br /> business and for the use of .the public in general . ' <br /> 5. Street lighting for. Mashpee Middle School , its driveways, parking areas, <br /> and entrances/exits to Town roads used as access to the school . <br /> 6.
