Garland stated that the Board had received a petition with approxi- <br /> mately 165 signatures requesting the following; "We the undersigned <br /> request that the mouths of Great River and Little River, in the Town- <br /> ship of Mashpee, be dredged to the depth of six feet to enable over <br /> five hundred boaters to use all channels . The present depth of three <br /> feet presents a significant hardship on boatowners and boat business- <br /> es , in the area of these rivers. " Sel. Garland felt that the wording <br /> was confusing. Board checked the map. Sel. Garland explained what <br /> the petition was about. Sel. Garland moved that if it is in order this <br /> petition be presented for an article at the Annual Town meeting. Seconded <br /> by Chm. Thomas . This is a vote. Chm. Thomas said that this is a serious <br /> problem. Board said that the petition had been brought in by Mrs . <br /> William Burtis . Chm. Thomas asked that a copy of the petition be sent <br /> to the Harbor Master and to Dr. Gaines . Sel. Garland suggested that <br /> Executive Secretary refer to Town Counsel for the correct language for <br /> Town warrant. . Executive Secretary to pursue. <br /> 2 : 30 p.m. - Wendy Rubin, Recreation Director, came before the Board to <br /> request a travel voucher to attend a conference in Washington, D.C. , <br /> at the end of January. After much discussion, Sel. Garland moved <br /> that the request for $168. 00 travel for Wendy Rubin, be denied. Chm. <br /> Thomas seconded, and said maybe next year. This was a vote. Wendy <br /> discussed with the Board the problems she is having at the school with <br /> the adult basketball program. Board advised her to cancel the program, <br /> but she felt that the program is worth the headaches and she feels <br /> that most of the problems have been resolved. Chm. Thomas asked if <br /> she was having a game that night. Wendy replied she was . Board wished <br /> her good luck. <br /> Motion by Sel. Garland to appoint Selena F. Coombs, Hannah M. Everett, <br /> Selena Levine and David Robbins to the Mashpee Historical District <br /> Study Committee. Seconded by Chm. Thomas . This is a vote . <br /> Sel. Garland moved to appoint Gordon Peters as a call firefighter, term <br /> to expire June 30, 1983. Seconded by Chm. Thomas . This is a vote. <br /> Motion by Sel. Garland to appoint Amy Mosley to the Capital Program <br /> Committee as Secretary, term to expire June 30 , 1983. Seconded by Chm. <br /> Thomas. This is a vote. <br /> Chm. Thomas asked if there was any other business to come before the <br /> Board. Reporters inquired about the Self-Help Grant. Chm. Thomas said <br /> that it was sitting on the Governor' s desk waiting to be signed. <br /> Motion by Sel. Garland to adjourn. Seconded by Chm. Thomas . This is <br /> a vote.
