He- stated that Mashpee <br /> is entitled to receive $500 for an arts council . He stated <br /> that in order to receive -this money however we -need a local <br /> arts council to review a plications and submit recommendations <br /> to the state no later than November 1 ,. 1983. <br /> fir . <br /> Murphy h also stated that three prior attempts to start <br /> an arts council had been unseccessful . A notice would be <br /> posted on -the town hall bulletin . The Council. on Aging and <br /> Library Trustees would be notified . <br /> APPOINTMENTS AND HEARINGS CONTINUED : <br /> Mr.. David Fisher came to ►eet the Board of selectmen.. . <br /> 7 ..00 p .m. <br /> regarding the appointment of an also ia.te -member -to. . <br /> the Board of Appeals . Mr... Fisher stated that he was <br /> a build6r - at one time and now works for a contractor . <br /> He said he also served on a Finance committee at one <br /> time . - Sel . Hanson asked Mr . Fisher if he had anop- <br /> portunity to attend a Board of Appeals meeting. Mr . <br /> Fisher said that he had .' Board thanked, Mr . Fisher for <br /> coming. <br /> 7 :1 <br /> p .m. - Although no appointment had been scheduled for Mr. <br /> Vernon Thomas who also- sho-wed an interest on the. <br /> appointment as an associate member of the Board of <br /> Appeals Se,1. Hansong said that the reason being that <br /> the Board knew Mr. Thomas , he could speak if -he wanted <br /> t . <br /> Mr . Thomas said that he was horn in sagarore . He attended <br /> vocational school . He did carpentry in 1949 . He served . <br /> n the Bourne Police Department for three years , He has <br /> worked for Mr . Labute in 19606. After that he got an <br /> appointment as a Special lice officer for the Town of <br /> Mashpee from Police Chief Horace Gifford. He also worked. <br /> with heavy equipment and than became a full time police <br /> officer for - the Town of- ape for eighteen years . He <br /> wa-s also the Constable 'for the Town of Iashpee . Mr . Thomas <br /> said that he enjoyed doing work for the town and he would' <br /> be pleased to serve on a committee . Board thanked Mr . <br /> Thomas'. <br /> hm. Garland, discus-sed discus-sethe recommendations of the Executive. Secretary <br /> Town Meetings . The Board approved the following suggestions <br /> regarding g - <br /> no <br /> more last minute articles would be accepted for the warrants, all <br /> department heads that have ars article in the warrant would have to be <br /> o be <br /> present <br /> at the review session before town meeting and would have t <br /> present a <br /> town meeting to Pa..ke the motion and give a brief explanation , <br /> ' s would have to have a brief explanation, the Finance Committee, <br /> all article <br /> �wou <br /> 1d have to give specific explanation o all town articles and fir. <br /> Murphy said that <br /> administratively we would try to inform the p-ubl.i-c <br /> better. <br /> del . Hanson said that at the last town. meeting it looked like <br /> a catch <br /> He feels a. better effort has to be made . Chm. Garland <br /> said that the Board must adhere to the deadline . <br />
