BOARD of SELECTMEN MEETING <br /> January 4, 1384 <br /> PRESENT : Chairman Chester A. Garland, Selectmen Willard L. Hanson and <br /> Richard L. Terry, Town Counsel Joseph J. Reardon and the Executive <br /> Secretary Joseph F. Murphy. <br /> GUESTS Mrs, B. Jean Thomas, Mr. Vernon Thomas, Ms. Jane Peterson. The <br /> members of the Board of Appeals' arrived at 7 :00 p.m. they were ' <br /> the following:--Mrs. Virginia Landry, Mr. Manuel costa and Mr. <br /> Michael. Maunas. <br /> Chairman Garland convened the January 4 , 1984 meeting at 6 :05 .m. and <br /> thanked the members of the Department of Environmental Management for <br /> coming, chm. Garland extended the Board' s appreciation. <br /> Motion by Sel. Hanson to approve the minutes of the December 2 , <br /> 1983 Regular Meeting. Seconded by Sel. Terry. Motion Carried. <br /> Chin* Garland said that he had previously discussed with the Executive <br /> Secretary the matter of letting Mr. Murphy conduct the meeting and if <br /> .,there were no objections from the other Selectmen he would at this time <br /> turn the meeting over to Mr. Murphy. No objections from the other <br /> Board members. <br /> Mr. Murphy said the only appointment scheduled was for p. . therefore <br /> the -Board would go to old business. <br /> OLD BUSINESS <br /> 1. ) Mr. Murphy explained that a few weeks ago the Board had received <br /> a recommendation from the Conservation commission regarding the <br /> appointment of a member to the Commission. The Board has received <br /> a letter from Mrs. B. Jean Thomas and a routine form was submitted <br /> by Priscilla Jean Hama expressing interest on serving on this commission. <br /> Motion by Sel. Terry to recommend and appoint Mrs. B. Jean Thomas to <br /> the Conservation Commission to finish Mr. Peter Durmer' s term which i <br /> expires June 30 ,, 1-984. Seconded by Sel. Hanson. Chm, Garland said that <br /> now there should be a point of discussion. Chm. Garland stated that <br /> he was putting the name of Mrs . Priscilla Ram in. nomination. Chm. <br /> Garland stated that he is very concerned and objects to Sel. Terry and <br /> Mrs. Thomas going to the conservation Commission and obtaining recom- <br /> mendations from that Board. He objects strongly to that. Chm. Garland <br /> referred to Mrs. Thomas' s letter and agreed that she has served on <br /> many Committees but he feels that when things do-..not go her way she <br /> bads away and resigns. He feels the- position on the Conservation <br /> Commission is a very important job. chm. Garland asked if there were <br /> any other nominations . He stated that the nominations were closed. <br /> el. Terry said that he moved again that Mrs. Thomas be appointed. <br /> chm. Garland said the motion was still on the floor. votes ...were Sel. <br /> Terry - I. Sel , Hanson - I. chm. Garland - opposed. Note was two in <br /> favor one oppose. Motion Carried. chra. Garland said that Mrs. B. Jean <br /> Thomas was appointed by this Board. , <br /> I <br />
