NEW BUSINESS : 1. n the memo- from the Recreation Director regarding beach sticker fees , Executive Secretary explained that she could not make the meeting this evening and asked the - Board to defer -this for one week. Board agreed. Chm. Garland said that she should take -another look at the one sticker per family co mendation -that she is proposing. 2. } Executive e:cretar l explaine that. the. Board had , received. the annual assessment to. the town from r-'. Chase, front the Department of veterans Services. Chm. Garland said he- wanted to point out some of the i nah-. cial problems the veterans Services .are having. He. stated that the staff has been -grossly underpaid for some . time now and that : he_..T wn" of Barnstable. .is no., longer- givin them }free-rent. They have to pay $5, 000 for rent -to the- town of Barnstable this year. They also have to pay Barnstable for the telephone use, this i the use of the switchboard. All these are extra ordinary increases. . Board reviewed the memorandum from Police Chief Frye regarding res- cinding the appointment- of five special police officers . Executive Secretary said. that the Chief thought it cost money to keep these individuals if they were appointed.. He explained t . -the Chief that they only get, paid when they are assigned duty. Chief- Frye wi11 not assign these individuals until June 30, 1984 and the Selectmen will not reappoint -them. This will serve the same purpose. i Board reviewed the apportioned figures for the Town of Mashpee from the Cape Cod Regional Technical High School District. Executive Secretary said that there- is a increase this year, this shows a $10-, 744 . increase, He also explained that the cost for technical schools is more because of the equipment cost they have. . on the letter from S61ectmen Rauschenbach of Brewster regarding acid rain the Board decided to refer this to the Conservation Commission. At this point in the meeting Sel. Terry said; that Town Counsel wanted to make some re.commendations to- the Board regarding Dick & Ellie' s flea market application., Town Counsel said that where a formal request had been submitted, he recommends the Board act on it. Where the application was pro.perl.y. filed Town, counsel recommends the Board denies the application. He suggest both Attorney Sweeney and the Ta i l' s be sent a reply. Town Counsel said the Board should deny the application because use is not- allowed in .town zoning by-laws. Chat, Garland said to disregard the previous comments made at the beginning of- old business. Motion by S e l. Terry to deny -Attorney Sweeney' s and the Was i l' s request without prejudice pending the outcome of the special town meeting for the fact that zoning, as it stands today, does not provide for such use.
