.. <br /> BOARD OF SELECTMEN <br /> MINUTES <br /> WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 25, 198 <br /> Present: Selectman Terry, Selectman Thomas, Executive Secretary, Joseph F. <br /> Murphy <br /> Absent: Selectman Hanson <br /> Guests: Monica McNally, John Umina, Eugene Darr, Ernie Virgilio, Chief Frye <br /> and Deputy Cooper <br /> 7 p.m. Selectman Terry convened the meeting of September 25, 1955 <br /> Selectman Thomas moved to approve the minutes of September 18 regular meeting and <br /> September 23rd emergency meeting. Selectman Terry seconded. Motion carried. <br /> APPOINTMENTS & HEARINGS <br /> 7:00 - Mr. John Umina r qu st d time with the Board to seek approval of improving <br /> a portion of Great Hay Road, Mr. Umina explained he would like to make this <br /> road more passable-as there aro areas that are clay and tend to stay muddy. <br /> The Town Planner has concerns as to the towns liability if this road is <br /> improved this will make this road more passable for additional traffic. <br /> Selectman Terry stated he would tike town counsel to look into the liability <br /> to the town and he will take a trip out to take a look at the road. The <br /> Board deferred action until this could be examined. <br /> 7:20 - Vernon Thomas chairman- of the Shellfish Commission submitted two articles <br /> forthe December 2, special town meeting. One was for a full -time constable <br /> and the other was to have the monies from the sale of shellfish permits <br /> go into an account and used for reseeding. <br /> Mr. Murphy pointed out this article is contrary to the Massachusetts General <br /> Laws and asked if the commiison would accept guidance from town counsel as <br /> to the wording cf an articl,e for this. <br /> The Commission agreed to ask counsel for guidance. <br /> Mr. Thomas pointed out the request for full-time shellfish constable would <br /> be for his salary of about $20,000. <br /> Selectman Thomas recommended the Shellfish Commission meet with the Personnel <br /> Board and in the mean time work up a job description. <br /> Selectmen agreed to reserve a spot on the warrant for the article. <br /> Mr. Thomas asked how they would go about getting alternate members. <br /> Mr. Murphy explained that the commission was created at town meeting and <br /> therefor would have to amend the article to make permanent provisions for <br /> a l trnat s. <br /> i <br /> Mr. Thomas also asked if the Selectmen had received a response from 'dale & <br /> Dorr as to the- question of article 2 of the scallop regulations. <br /> i <br />
