GENERAL ORDER <br /> SUBJECT: Accident Investigation/Accident Reporting (Page 3) <br /> 13. An officer investigating a traffic accident shall submit a full report <br /> at or ,before the conclusion of his tour of duty unless otherwise directed <br /> by the watch Commander. <br /> IV. RESPONSIBILITIES: <br /> In all fatal accidents or accidents causing serious personal injury, in <br /> all hit and run accidents involving personal injury or accidents involving <br /> damage to municipal property the watch commander will notify the following: <br /> a. Deputy or Chief of Police <br /> b. County Identification Officer (Evidence Collection) <br /> c. Accident Investigation Board Representative (See Section V) <br /> d. Medical Examiner (Fatal accidents only) <br /> �e. Registry of Motor Vehicles (Fatals and near Fatals Only) <br /> The officer initially investigating an accident in his assigned area shall <br /> yield to andassist any of the above in the investigation effort ending involvement <br /> only when no longer needed.,or as directed by the Watch Commander. <br /> V. ESTABLISHMENT OF ACCIDENT INVESTIGATION BOARD: <br /> 1. Effective immediately accidents in the following catagories will be <br /> investigated by a three member'team to be known as the "Accident Investigation <br /> Board;" <br /> a. Fatal Accidents (Motor Vehicle) <br /> b. Fatal Accidents (Industrial/Residential) <br /> c. Hit and Run Accidents involving personal injury <br /> d. Accidents involving ,personal injury to Department personnel or <br /> municipal property. j <br /> e. Serious Injury Accidents (When a fatality is likely) <br /> 2. The Accident Investigation Board Representative will: <br /> a. 'Consult with the initial investigator and assume responsibility for <br /> completion of the investigation. <br /> b. Assume all responsibilities in conjunction with the County Identification <br /> Officer for the collection/preservation of evidence. <br /> C. Conduct preliminary investigation and report findings to the Deputy <br /> Chief of Police. <br /> d. Finalize investigation and prepare for prosecution. <br /> 3. Municipal Property Damage Accidents <br /> a. Upon collection ofevidence and/or statements the Accident Investigation <br /> Board shall make a determitaTioitiof fault on the part of the Municipal <br /> Employee involved, and report the. findings through the Office of the <br /> Deputy Chief or Chief of .Police. ,' <br /> VI. , PRIVATE PROPERTY ACCIDENTS: !j <br /> Accidents that occur on private;property ,shall be investigated in the same <br /> manner as accidents on public property when fb�e .following circumstances occur: <br />
