SPECIAL ORDER <br /> N <br /> TO:. All Personnel - <br /> FR: Deputy Chief of Police <br /> Ln <br /> RE: House Officer, Assignment and Duties <br /> w <br /> EXPLANATION: <br /> 1) During the past several months Police activity and work-load has increased tremend- <br /> ously throughout the department. Moreover, the increase in activity, general calls for <br /> service, Police emergency calls and the added responsibility of Radio/Telephone <br /> dispatching for the Fire Department has caused .the need for additional manpower for <br /> Telephone/Radio Dispatching and other station (House) duties. <br /> ASSIGNMENT: <br /> 2) During tour of duty .the Watch Commander/Acting Watch Commander may, depending upon <br /> manpower resources and patrol duty requirements/field conditions, assign a uniformed <br /> patrol officer as House Officer to assist the Telephone/Radio Dispatcher. Further, <br /> the Watch Commander/Acting Watch Commander may, at his discretion, rotate the House <br /> Officer assignment with other officers or himself at anytime during the shift. <br /> DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES: <br /> 3) Personnel .assigned as House Officer, , in addition to special orders as maybe <br /> required by the Watch Commander/Acting Watch Commander, will be responsible for the <br /> following: <br /> A. Investigate Walk-in Complaints <br /> B. Investigate Telephone Call-in,complaints <br /> C. Assist with Dispatching Duties (i.e. answer telephone, type log entries, etc) <br /> D. Monitor/Check Prisoners and/or persons being held pursuant to Ch. 111B <br /> E. Clerical Duties <br /> F. Booking Officer Duties <br /> ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS-PATROL DUTIES: <br /> 4) Patrol personnel assigned as :House Officer should be prepared to leave the station <br /> to render an initial response and/or assist ,a patrol unit.regarding emergency and/or <br /> general service calls. <br /> 5) The Watch Commander/Acting Watch Commander will insure that all patrol personnel <br /> assigned as House Officer(s) are .fully equipped to assume patrol duties and are assigned <br /> a police cruiser if a response to an emergency and/or general service call is required. <br /> This Special Order is to be used in conjunction with all relevant existing depart- <br /> mental general and special orders, policies, procedures, rules and regulations. <br /> This order has been recommended by Communications Officer, Sgt.
