I
IL
i
CF
Board of Selectmen r
Regular Meeting
Wednesday, November 19, 1986
spoken with Chuck Liberty on this issue and "he expressed interest
if it were possible to put the kindergarten in the library, it would
free areas in the present school building. Tl at would allow the
accommodation of their needs at least for the next year, probably
two, until, the new school will be on the line". There is the question
as to whether or notthis would satisfy the State 's requirements ,
Also what would it cost, etc .? Iver. Lawrence suggested that perhaps
any purchased portable classrooms could be incorporated into the new
school building. The School Committee and the Administrator will be
instructed to look into the feasibility of this idea and report back
to the Board.
Members of the Historical Commission were present and
stated that it was authorized at Town Meeting to use the existing library
as an archives building. They also stated that the heating system at
the library is inadequate for the children. Also. . .tha.t the corner
intersection location of the library would be unsafe. Mrs Hanson
stated that the Board understands their position; however, "The
education of the children has to be a priorityff 0
r. Murphy was instructed to reply to the School o .mitte
and the Administrator and Principal asking for "more solid numbers".
Perhaps the State would just refuse the idea. The Board wants "solid
ideas'
HEARINGS AND APPOINTMENTS ( cont. )
3 . Representative of State Department of Public Works re
road salt nor snow and ice control. The -orsen` atz stated that the
State DPW will reduce to a. 4-1 ratio the amount of salt used to control
the amount of sodium chloride that gets into the ground water and town
and private wells . It it mean that the roads +rill be more slippery
and dangerous . He asked that the Town officials broadcast this message
at every available pportunit , i.e . meetings.: bulletin boards , etc.
so that people are aware of the increased potential danger. He especial.?
asked that Police Chiefs be alert to more hazardous driving situations
and the increased d.if'f,culties that the driving and pedestrian public
will have in coping.
Mr. Vow=g i l i o said that he will expect to continue to use a.
3-1 ratio as was done l st year. He felt that it was a ratio that
drivers could feel relatively comfortable with. This ratio will be in
effect on Town-maintained roads . Police Chief Frye concurred with
Ir. rgilio ' s policy.
NEW BUSINESS cont.
6. ReEional PlanPlanningDirector. Mrs . Thos a.s mored t
