PERSONNEL BOARD <br /> MA HPEE TOWN HALL <br /> MEETING OF -FEBURARY 28, 1983 <br /> The following members of the Personnel Board were present for tonight's meeting: <br /> Robert Sullivan, Chairperson, Caroline Gilligan, Curtis Woodbury, David Hardy and <br /> Manuel Glickman. <br /> Chairman Sullivan convened the meeting at 6-:00 p.M& <br /> Minutes of Personnel Board <br /> Curtis Woodbury made a motion to accept the minutes of January 24 and 28. Caroline <br /> Gilligan seconded the motion. All- present Frere in favor. - <br /> Memo re: Fire Chief Applications <br /> The Personnel Board reviewed a memo� from the Executive Secretary dated February 171'. <br /> 1983 stating that the Board ofSelectmen feel that the Town should retain the. ser- <br /> vices of the best possible candidate for Chief 'of the Fire Department and that it i <br /> the Bo' d's opinion that this vacancy is wide open for the hest candidate. <br /> Purchase of Calculator <br /> Curtis Woodbury roved that the secretary purchase an electric calculator with a tape <br /> for the office. Caroline Gilligan seconded the motion. A11 present were in favor. <br /> i <br /> Education Reimbursement i <br /> Tuition and boob re,imbursemiant for lair enforcement courses taken by Patrolman Edward <br /> Slevin during the fall semester at Northeastern University were approved totaling <br /> $423.50. <br /> a <br /> The secretary pointed out that the education funds were getting low and. that there <br /> would not be enough money in the budget to cover courses taken by employees during <br /> the sp ing semester as only $1500 was appropriated for the fiscal year. She also <br /> mentioned that there was a question from Town. A countant as to whether the $1500 re- <br /> imbursement -figur<was the total amount that could be appropriated for education <br /> courses, The Board requested that Attorney Gilman be contacted for an .interpretation <br /> bf the language in the contracts stating that "total reimbursement for all town em- <br /> ployees in any one year shall be 1_igit d- to fifteen hundred dollar1500.00)".. <br /> Fire Chief Interviews <br /> The Personnel Board conducted Fire Chief interviews along with the presence of the <br /> former Fire Chief of Otis, Calvin Hitchcock. The following candidates were scheduled <br /> Douglas Mills, Robert Skinner, Francis Grassa, Edward Ha.rtin, Frank Rarayia.ne , Tony i <br /> Napol.itano, Robert Lona and W illiaum .Chase. Mr. . apolitano cal led and cancelled his <br /> appointment 'Indicating that the size of the dpartment .was sr alter+ than what he is cur- <br /> rently working in. After the interviewing process, the majority of the Board voted to <br /> recommend Douglas Mills, Edward+ Martin, Robert Long and William Chase in the order <br /> lasted as finalists pending reference checks, <br /> The meeting ad j pruned at p.m. Heat Personnel meeting was scheduled for March 7, <br /> 1953. <br /> Respectfully submitted, <br /> arilyn Farren, Secretary <br /> Mf Personnel.
