Sullivan, Caroline M. Gilligan, Ma_nuel*' Glickman, rCarrie Saunders ' <br /> and Ben Lofchie. <br /> Chairman Sullivan convened the meeting promptly at 6:00 p.m i. t <br /> Minutes of November 5 - .. <br /> Ben Lofchie-moved to accept the Personnel Board minutes of November 5 . Caroline Gilligan <br /> a.., <br /> seconded. All'were in• favor. <br /> Memo from ExecutiveLSecretary - <br /> The Board-reviewed a memo from the Executive Secretary dated November 26 advising them. ` <br /> that the Board of Selectmen voted on November 21to require thefinalist for the deputy <br /> chief position to have psychological testing prior. to the appointment. Monies will be <br /> sought from the Finance Committee. a <br /> The Board discussed the written exam requirements as voted at -aprevious,Personnel Board <br /> meeting. Ben Lofchie asked the Board to vote again tonight: as to whether they thought a { <br /> written test. is essential. Carrie Saunders' said that she did not think the test[,) warrants <br /> it as itis a simple test. She said that the -written assessment.,portion-of the psycholo- <br /> gical" evaluation is much more valid. Bob questionned' whether the psychological testing <br /> would be beneficial commenting that the written test could be weighted in percentage wise. <br /> 0fter further discussion, the Board agreed not ,to pursue the written examination portion - <br /> their initial requirements. They agreed ,to hold-;the oral interview andLto have the psy- + <br /> chological evaluation done by Dr. Barry.` <br /> • s <br /> Deputy Chief Interviews - + , <br /> . The Board interviewed Sergeant Maurice Cooper and ,Sergeant Beyacqua for the position of <br /> Deputy Chief. Chief Frye was present during the interviews.- Each candidate was given a <br /> separate half hour .interview with the Board duringwhichtime resumes and backgrounds were <br /> r <br /> `reviewed with the candidates. They were apprised that a psychological evaluation would be ' <br /> part of the requirements if chosen as a finalist'. Upon conclusion ofsthe interview process, . <br /> Chairman Sullivan asked' Chief Frye for his input. Chief Frye commented that. Sergeant Cooper <br /> stated in his interview that he had a lot of responsibilities. Sergeant Bevacquadid not <br /> have many responsibilities. Chief .Frye said that. was because he could• not rely on 'Sergeant . <br /> Bevacqua to finish assignments; he does not have the respect .from the men; and he is not <br /> consistent. It was the unanimous voteg of the .Personnel Board to,recommen_d to the Board of <br /> Selectmen that. Sergeant Cooper be chosen as the°candidate for ,Deputy Chief pending psychologi- <br /> cal testing and town meeting appropriation. <br /> •Administrative Secretary .Interviews <br /> The Board interviewed,the,fol"lowing candidates for_ the position of Administrative Secretary . <br /> to the Board ofiSelectmen: Carole Morgado, Elise Witkus, Paula Rooney'Sand Nancy Young.. "Two <br /> other applicants chosen to be interviewed, 'JanetLManchester and Shirley Cladding; withdrew <br /> their applications. " Mrs. Gladding withdrew because of her shorthand and Ms. Manchester did. <br /> .not wish to be tested. The -Personnel' -Board felt that all four candidates interviewed were _ <br /> qualified and voted to recommend that consideration be�given to Paula Rooney* (tst choice) ; s <br /> isa Witkus (2nd 'choice) ;. Carole Morgado (3rd choice) and .Nancy Young (9th choiceh.. ' <br /> y � •t , <br />
