1 <br /> PERSONNEL BOARD <br /> MEETING OF MARCH CH 1 , 1984 <br /> MA HPEE TOWN MALL <br /> The following members of the Personnel Board were present: Chairman Robert Sullivan, <br /> Caroline Gilligan, Manuel Glickman and Carrie Saunders. <br /> Chairman Sullivan convened the meeting at p.m. <br /> Review of Salary Structure <br /> The Board reviewed the Salary Reclassification Schedule, Appendix A, showing cost <br /> of living increases for all employees under the town 's personnel administration plan. <br /> The Board discussed freezing the rates that are currently in effect for the following <br /> positions : Temporary Secretaries, Temporary Clerk Typists Highway Laborers (Tempor- <br /> ary Help) , Lifeguards, Gate Attendants, Recreation Aides , Special Police officers <br /> Matrons and Call Firemen. A separate section will be referenced for the above-listed <br /> positions as Appendix B. Town meeting vote will be needed for this change. <br /> Deputy Police Chief <br /> Chief Frye met with the Board to discuss the preliminaries on hiring a Deputy Police <br /> Chief. The position was created back in 1972 and hasn't been funded for some time. A <br /> current job description was reviewed.Chief,` rerecommended the salary to be 15% higher <br /> than the highest sergeant' s salary. Be suggested $25 ,176.84 (Grade 27, step 1 to be <br /> effective 7/1/84. The position will be opened up within the department and the -exam <br /> will be prepared by a private company.OhiefFr- re mentioned that they were reorganizing <br /> his department and that new rules and regulations were being presented. The Board sug- <br /> gested that a comparable__ salary study be conducted. <br /> Conservation officer <br /> The Conservation Commission requested the Personnel Board in a memo dated March 16. to <br /> do a comparable salary study for the position of conservation officer as they have sub- <br /> mitted an article for inclusion on the wArrant of the special town meeting. Bob re- <br /> quested that a job description be obtained. <br /> Newspaper Article re : Town Auditor <br /> The Board reviewed a newspaper article where the Mashpee Town Accountant, Vernice Polka. <br /> presses for modernization of the accounting office. Mrs. Polka has suggested that her <br /> position be charged,from townccountant to auditor and systems analyst and that the <br /> current assistant be made the town accountant. <br /> Meeting With Selectmen <br /> Next t Monday, at 7 -00 p.m. , the Board of Selectmen will bb meeting with the Personnel <br /> Board to discuss the positions of town planner, natural resource officer, conservation <br /> officer "as istant town accountant. They will also be discussing reorganization of <br /> the highway department and recreation department. Annual physicals should also be <br /> discussed. <br /> Farewell Cale and Punch <br /> On March 29 at 3 :00 p.m. in theSelectmen's office, . a farewell cake and punch party <br /> F <br /> will be held for Selectman Garland as his last day at town hall will be March 29. <br /> ti <br /> Public Employee Appreciation Darr <br /> T <br /> In July, 1983 , Governor Dukakis signed Chapter 263, an act establishing the first <br /> Wednesday in June as Public Employee Appreciation Day.
