PERSONNEL BOARD <br /> MEETING of JULY 29) 1985 <br /> MAHPFB TOWN HALL <br /> The following members of the Personnel Board were in attendance at tonight's meeting: <br /> Chairman Robert Sullivan, 'Caroline Gilligan and Manuel Glickman <br /> Chairman Sullivan convened the meeting at p.m. <br /> Interviews for .ill-Tire Police Officer <br /> The Personnel Board) - along with the assistance of Chief Frye and Deputy Chief Cooper inter- <br /> viewed the following candidates for the position of full--time police officer: James <br /> Ma liocca, Nelson. Bauman, Shaun Martin.* Charles ,Day, Joseph O'Toole) Richard Hardy, William <br /> Murphy, -Pau i Driscoll and Stephen Daley. Another candidate scheduled to be interviewed, <br /> Michael Barry, withdrew his application stating that he Mould be going back to school to <br /> complete his college education. All candidates were apprised of the salary that the position <br /> would pay annually -- $16,369.37. Each candidate was given a copy of the police academyre- <br /> quirements for physical standards. At the ,conclusion of the interviews, Chairman Sullivan <br /> asked Chief Frere and Deputy, Chief Cooper for their recommendations. Chief 'Frye commented <br /> that James Magliocca, Paul Driscoll and Nelson Bauman did net have much experience. He <br /> said that new information came to light on Charles Day in doing prelininary background <br /> checks. Chairman Sullivan asked that he submit something in writing to ,the Board in regard <br /> to the information he received on Mr. Day. The Board voted to have complete background checks <br /> done on Richard Hardy, Shaun Martin and William Murphy. They agreed to consider Joseph blToole <br /> and Stephen Daley for future hiring. No decision wa .made on Mr. Day until the Board receives <br /> written communication From the Chief. <br /> Wesi-start Town Accountant - Step Increase <br /> Board reviewed a favorable annual evaluation on Diane Romelmeyer,, the Assistant Town <br /> Accountant, submitted by Vernice Polka, Town Accountant. A unanimous vote' was taken by the <br /> Board to grant a step increase for Mrs. Romelmeyer to be effective on her anniversary date - <br /> of 8/6/84. <br /> Ruling from Town Counsel <br /> The secretary stated that a letter' was received from Town Counsel dated July 10, 19$5 relative <br /> to the Health Agent's salary and- the statutory authority under which the Board of Health acts <br /> to operate a health agent. The Board- felt that a meeting should be scheduled with Town <br /> Counsel to discuss the matter further. <br /> Letter from Town Planner - re: Secretary Hour <br /> The Board reviewed a letter dated July 19 from the Town Planner relative to the Board's memo <br /> questioning the hours of his secretary as payroll reflected that she had not worked a 35 hour~ <br /> week for several weeks. The Town Planner- guo.11--es several reasons for this stating that if <br /> things do not improve the six-month review will reflect his recommendations.' The Board asked <br /> the secretary to keep an eye on the situation. <br /> Legal Opinion re: Berg Lof chic <br /> A letter dated July 19 was received from Town Counsel, Joseph Reardon, stating that he does <br /> . <br /> not believe that there would be a conflict of interest if Ben Lofchie remained the Personnel <br /> Board as well as being an elected official on the Board of ssessors. <br /> eting adjourned at 9 :45 p.m. <br /> .
