GUIDELINES FOR PROFESSIONAL IMPROVEMENT OR IMPROVEMENT OF PERFORMANCE THROUGH <br /> EDUCATION COURSES FUNDED BY THE TOWN. <br /> • <br /> The Personnel Board encourages and supports all town employees to participate in <br /> educational programs and activities which will improve job performance and-whole- <br /> some attitutes generally. However, with limited funding, some guidelines are <br /> necessary to insure that such funds are distributed with fairness and equity. <br /> 1 . - All courses or enrichment activities must be approved by the Personnel Board in <br /> advance of participation. - <br /> 2. All course work must be taken or sponsored by an accredited college, university <br /> or other educational agencies. _ <br /> 3. The funds shall be divided so as one-half of the fund is allocated to the period <br /> from July 1 to December 31 ; the balance shall be for the period of January 1 <br /> through June 30_ - <br /> (a) No employees may be reimbursed for more than 25% of the balance remaining in <br /> the fund at time of application . - <br /> 4. All courses/projects must fall within the employee's work area or directly related <br /> to the particular job. <br /> 5. Upon completion of a course/project, an official transcript, certificate, or other <br /> forms of documentation must be presented to the Personnel Board for copying and <br /> • retention. <br /> 6. Employees working toward college degrees or advanced studies are urged to look for <br /> and give evidence of securing other funding sources. <br /> 7. No approval will be given for course work or project participation during the regular <br /> work day. <br /> 8. Newly hired employees shall complete their probationary period before applying for a <br /> course. <br /> (a) Newly hired employees will not be granted reimbursement for courses or projects _ - <br /> during the first year of employment. <br /> Adopted By: <br /> Personnel Board <br /> • February 4, 1985 <br />
