Asst . Assessor/Data Collector and Asst . Assessor Positrons <br /> Ben presented two new job descriptions for both positions . With reference to <br /> the Asst . -Asse. sor Data Collector position , he advised the Board that the Data <br /> Collector~ does not belong in the job ., He said that if- the job were to become <br /> Wfacant and the town advertises for the position , they will get the wrong type <br /> person if the words "data collectors' were not changed - He said that the <br /> current person in the job does field work . <br /> Leo Turo asked if there is a standard fern in making appraisals? • Ben replied <br /> "yes " . He said that in the assessor ' s office , you have v arip.-u"-s ways of doing <br /> assessing . The Assistant Assessor does field work and all the information is <br /> seat up to Chelm;,sfiord and they put it on a computer . - <br /> Chairman <br /> omputer . .hairman Sullivan asked if he was recommending that the new title be I'Asst . <br /> Assessor'" '? Ben replied "yes " Chairman Sullivan asked why it wouldn ' t be <br /> "Field Worker" ? Berg said that in other towns , you' don ' t call it that . <br /> Ben pointed out that the new job descriptions ,were prepared by Arthur- Morley <br /> and himself . He said. that by preparing a new job description , one would <br /> know what is expected f a­.,person if there were a vacancy . <br /> Ben referred to Pam Davis , po ition?\ saying that it is recommended that it be <br /> called "Director of Assessing" . <br /> Chairman Sullivan asked if he were talking .money? . Berg. said that there has <br /> been a big shortage of Assessors and that he is noticing a lot of help-wanted <br /> ads . Sharon has not been able to fill the vacancy in their town and it is <br /> costing them a fortune -, Two towns on the Cape are looking for Assessors (and <br /> they think they may have lost Carol . Barnstable is offering $22 , 000 compared <br /> 4 <br /> to the $17 , 000 which Carol is-' making .- The Town 'of Bourns is looking for ars <br /> st . Assessor at $23 , 000 . Dennis is paying $30 , 000 with no field work in- <br /> olved . Scituate is paying 1 , OOO . other towns have had to hire M_ M. . <br /> Falmouth has three people plus deputy . <br /> Berg went on to explain that no other person would be needed to do the data <br /> collection .. They would hire a clerk on, a part-time basks and eventually mare <br /> it full-time when computers come in . <br /> chairman Sullivan indicated that he has no problem with the change in job <br /> titles . Leo Turo said that h had no problem with the charge either . Manny <br /> asked if he were saying that they must rair se the salary? Ben replied "yes <br /> Manny asked on what justification? Ben indicated that the town would have <br /> to hire someone for $25 an hour if they didn ' t change the salary : He said <br /> that the s6lary should be at $22 , 000 . <br /> Chairman Sullivan asked Ben to bring a document to the Board stating that the <br /> employees will go along with the new job description and title . Manny said <br /> that he had no objection on an article . <br /> Caroline asked if they starth ngJLncJ titles would there be influx from other <br /> employees? Ben replied that there may be .
