BOARD OF SELECTMEN <br /> MINUTES REGULAR SESSION <br /> MONDAY, AUGUST 289 1989 <br /> PAGE FOUR <br /> APPOINTMENTS & HEARINGS <br /> ont. <br /> Mr, Gott1ieb restated the motion - The Board will send a <br /> letter to the Police Union requesting that the sheep be <br /> reproved based upon the fact that the Board feels that its <br /> presence brings to the surface sensitive issues of concern <br /> to members of the community and that it is in the best <br /> interest of the community that it be removed. <br /> Mrs, Jacobson stated that she would withdraw her motion <br /> requesting the Interim Executive Secretary to request that <br /> the sheep be removed for the time being and agree that the <br /> Board of Selectmen send the letter requesting the sheep be <br /> removed by the Police Union due to the sensitivity of the <br /> issue and the fact that other issues of a sensitive nature <br /> may occur on Town properties . Mr. Lawrence seconded the <br /> motion . All were In favor. <br /> Mr. Gottlieb stated that this had been a completely <br /> negative experience that did nothing to serve the interest <br /> of the Town, the people of the community who took offense <br /> or the reputation and effectiveness of the Police <br /> Department. <br /> The proposed policy was reach - It is the policy of the <br /> Board of Selectmen that no ornamental fixtures be placed on <br /> municipal property without the written permission of the <br /> Board of Selectmen. The placing of flags arra seasonal <br /> decorations and the planting of flowers and plants are <br /> exempted from this po l i cY. <br /> Judy Mills submittedthe following to be added to the <br /> proposed policy; Any request found to be offensive by an <br /> member or group of members of the community on the grounds <br /> of race, re l i i on, national origin or sex may be deemed <br /> cuff i c i ent reason for denial of request. <br /> Pyr, Lawrence moved that the proposed policy be forwarded to <br /> Town Counsel for review and response in two weeks . Mrs. <br /> Jacobson seconded the motion, All were in favor. <br />
