Ott, Catherine Conroy: <br /> John Ferguson., Elizabeth Pett. <br /> The Meeting was Called to Order by Chairman Jacobson at 7* 00 p.m. <br /> APPROVAL OF MINUTES: <br /> The motion was made by Selectman Gottlie to approve the minutes <br /> of July 8tand lo, 1991 Regular Sessions,' The motion was seconded by <br /> Selectman C a f n. The vote of the Board is unanimous to approve the <br /> past minutes. The vote is 4-0. <br /> PUBLIC DISCUSSION : <br /> John' s Pond Residents: <br /> Many residents from the John' s Pond area were present to discuss <br /> the pollution deriving from Otis with the Board. Selectman Jacobson <br /> made mote the public discussion period is available for fesidents to <br /> discuss their concerns with the Selectmen, She will allocate `i 'teen <br /> minutes for the discussion period and suggests to the residents to <br /> place this on the Board' s. agenda for further discussion, <br /> With concerns towards John' s Pond, Selectman Jacobson. informed <br /> the residents there is ongoing negotiations with the Base and the <br /> Board will be working on the issues in the spirit of cooperation, There <br /> has been testing of -the water and there are no reported volitil.e organic <br /> compounds detected. The Board of Health will continue to do monthly <br /> testing of the water. There has been discussion with the Environmental <br /> Affairs Office and the Board is continuing to persue this issue of <br /> concernQ <br /> Selectman Jacobson and Selectman Hanson made note they reside <br /> in the John' s Pond area and share the concerns with the residents. There <br /> are more issues being addressed than the public realizes and it is a <br /> leng -ly process dealing with the state. The Board will continue to <br /> work on this major concern. <br /> Janes Kinney was present representing the lashpee Association for <br /> Base Clean-up. The three major concerns involve safe and immediate <br /> base pollution clean-upt comprehensive testing of John' s Pond at the <br /> government' s expense and constant air monitoring of Mashpee and Upper <br /> Cape to determine the high cancer rate in the area, <br /> Mr. Kinney is concerned the Board of Selectmen have not taken <br /> leadership on this concern. The Military, EPA and State DEP are dragging <br /> their Feet. The Association for Base Clean-up is concerned it be a <br /> safe clean-up which is not the cheapest route, The testing is not <br /> thorough enough. They Feel the testing should encompass shallow, deep <br /> and pond sediment and not just V C.1 s. If the sediment was tested, i <br />
