4
+ i
BOARD -off` SELECTMEN Page 1'
MINUTES
BION DAY SEPTEMBER 9v 1991
Recreation enter:
I would listen if we made a. proposal to make an even swap
states Selectman Jacobson. At the moment. . . MSI damehwty-' nan states
Selectman Lawrence, I think the point is we never got to the point
of the discussion, you just rekindled it. We never got to the point
to find out what agreement we could of core to . We should appoint
a. group, not nectssarily states the Chairman,,
Wait a minute, I don' t have. . . at this point, I hope that Wil and
Terry just ride off into the sunset states Selectman Lawrence and
forget the whole thing. If I were then, and I 'm sure they will do
that. ley point is that we never got to the point. Now you have
raised it and I think it' s one heck of an idea..
I would like to make a. motion states Selectman Lawrence that we
reinstitute a discussion with Field' s point to find out if there is
a common ground. We never got to that point, The fastest way to get
a. recreation center for these kids in Town is to renegotiate, not rel,
we never negotiated to get to that point. At least the discussion and
thank you for bringing that up. I think that' s a great idea, and I
never thought of that. (Audience applauds)
I don' t think that we should be making a. motion on something like
that until we all sit down with all of the information in a package
before us states Selectman Jacobson, For what asks Mr. Lawrence'
I will make a. motion states Selectman Lawrence that we reopen
negotiations with Field' s point over the Queen of All Saints Chapel
property to see if we could possibility cone up with an understanding
whereby we can have a rec center for the kids without waiting five
years clown the road. That is a simple -thing. We never got to that
point. All I am asking for is to reopen the negotiations. You can
appoint the people. I ' ll make it as part of my motion. The Chairman
of the Board of Selectmen approach the people who are on the negotiating
committee and I would suggest also that lir. Manson, .and Mr. Carter not
e on the committee. Than God for both of you. And I make that motion.
It' s a great idea.
I don' t think that I am in favor of doing that. I feel that until this
Board has sat clown states Selectman Jaciolbson. We have not heard from
the public yet, but we will take that motion. I have rade a, motion.
To reopen negotiations with Field' s Point over the parcel in question.
The Chairman of the Board of Selectmen pick the negotiating committee,
that' s it states Selectman Lawrence,
The motion is on the floor, do T hear a. second asks the in-aa `
Town Counsel can I second the motion? Yes you can. I second the motion
states Selectman Hanson,
All those in favor. # ..I would like a. discussion asks Selectman
affyn. Which is the same question I asked Wil when we had the discussion
in Executive Meeting which was are we talking long or short -term and
I asked if it was long term if we should go back into negotiat ions, so
-this is not what, . .You left the meeting in the, middle of this.- You may
have left the discussion, you left at the time.
You were asked the questi m of long term and you didn' t think
it was long term. That we would not want to use the property for
five years states Selectman Caffyn. We had the option for five years
t $1. 00 per year states Mr. Hanson to rent that building up to five years,
