Harrington <br /> Absent: Selectman Jacobson <br /> Guests : ]favid Bailey, Leslie Greig, Kenneth Porter, Bill <br /> Meterios <br /> The Meeting was Called to order by Selectman Hanson at 7: 30 a .m. <br /> PUBLIC FEARING: <br /> The purpose of this public hearing on this date informs <br /> Selectman Hanson is f-or public comments on the allocation of the <br /> tax levy by classification of property. The purpose is to solicit <br /> public comments on whether each classification f property should <br /> have a .dif erent rate or same rate for all classifications. <br /> Selectman Hanson noted he has talked with Selectman Jacobson <br /> in Florida and she is in agreement to hold this meeting at this <br /> particular date and time. This is the only item for discussion in <br /> this mornings meeting states Selectman Hanson. <br /> There is a definite difference in commercial vs . residential <br /> property suggests M . Meterios . commercial property generates <br /> income and the taxes are passed along to the consumer. There are <br /> differences in real estate such as water front vs. non-water front <br /> property causing no real problems, Ir. Meterios feels there are <br /> better ways to generate tax income than place the burden on the <br /> residential taxpayer. <br /> tax shift increases commercial property by a tremendous <br /> amount and gives a limited benefit to residential property explains <br /> Mr, Bailey. It is up to the Board of whether the benefit is worth <br /> it to the commercial property . <br /> Most commercial property is owned by small businesses with <br /> the exception of Au at states Mr. Bailey. There is no great advant- <br /> age <br /> dva t- <br /> a e to split the tax rate -for Mashpee . The consumer ends up paying <br /> the taxes . <br /> Commercial , industrial and personal property occupy 10% of <br /> the total evaluation and residential occupies 90% informs Mr. Bailey. <br /> Selectman cafyn suggests to prepare earlier next year with <br /> prior review by the Board and Board of Assessors. It is inadvised <br /> to shift at this point when we are looking for people to come into <br /> i <br /> town. This wound discourage thea. <br /> Selectman caffyn recommends to meet with the Board of Assessors <br /> to discuss the present rate of commercial , industrial and personal <br /> property vs. the rate of the 'individual homeowner. <br /> Mr, Greig agrees with Selectman caffern. There should be <br /> hard look at commercial/industrial and undeveloped property. This <br /> could benefit the homeowner. <br /> If the town is to encourage light industry, the tax incentives <br /> should be viewed on a case by case basis states Mr, Meterios . <br />
