1 <br />BOARD of SELECTMEN Page <br />MINUTES <br />4D ONAY, FBRUARY 1, 1993 <br />- - <br />Communication from chief Ridgeway re: Ambulance Fees <br />Chief Ridgeway indicated that the rate has not been changed <br />for approximately six years. The intent of the increased fee is <br />to purchase ' an ambulance for an estimated cost of $90,000. <br />For those without insurance, we are able to rebate the full <br />amount informed chief Ridgeway. Our methods to determine <br />hardship includes; non --force of o-1 lect ion . Three notices are <br />issued to the user of ambulance services. If payment has not <br />been rendered, it goes on record as an unpaid balance. We do not <br />use a collection agency to demand payment informed chief <br />Ridgeway. The user of ambulance services may also request the <br />Board of Selectmen to abate the hill noted chief Ridgeway. <br />It is important to note that his is clearly underlined to <br />the elderly related Chief Ridgeway. Last yearn we issued a <br />special mailing to the elderly relative to ambulance billing. <br />We are in need to modernize our fee structure indicated <br />Mr. Whritenour. It is necessary to purchase a new ambulance this <br />year. If the fees are kept artificially lover revenue is taken <br />from the Town. The proposed increase is not at the maximum <br />allowed rage informed Mr. Whritenour. The additional revenue <br />will create a reserve to purchase equipment. <br />Mrs, Greelish related that doubling the fee is not <br />justified. There is money in the Ambulance Receipts Account. <br />Approximately $75,000 is in the account to be used towards a <br />second ambulance. What does the fee have to go to, so we may <br />have an ambulance replacement program asked Mrs. Greelishe <br />Mr. Whriteour noted that the proposed $150 is less than the <br />maximum. The revenue in the Ambulance Reserve Receipts Account <br />is not legally restricted to fund ambulances. It can also fund <br />equipment for emergency related services* <br />Chief Ridgeway indicated that the intent of the article is <br />to purchase an ambulance for the Fire Department. Additional <br />revenue from the account can purchase major medical equipment o <br />but cannot be used to maintain the equipment. <br />*The Board is in agreement to schedule a Public Dearing to <br />discuss the Ambulance Fees. It is the agreement to advertise for <br />Monday, February 22, 1993 at :o p.m. <br />0 <br />
