BOARD OF SELECTMEN Page <br />MINUTES <br />MONDAY, MIS 1�1993 <br />4D <br />F'ishin Tournament Hearin <br />Mr. McGonagle, a resident of the area indicate teat -he is <br />opposed . to the infringement of his property rights, He <br />recommended to compromise with the bass fishermen, sot a safety. <br />standard and allow the residents the right to use their property. <br />Mr. McGonagle recommended mended to limit the number of tournaments <br />on Mashpeea}eby Pond. He noted that night fishing results in <br />excess noise and property theft. <br />Mr. McGonagle,indicated that at many times, there is illegal <br />dumping of tires and debris into the pond, The attraction is the <br />money involved in the tournament. The key factor is to get the <br />fish at any expense. Mr. McGonagle related that illegal dumping <br />is a violation of hazardous waste. <br />Mr. Roberts, a resident of the pond indicated that illegal <br />dumping has occurred, He has retrieved tires from the pond left <br />by fishermen. <br />John Nee, President of the MA BASS Federation indicated that <br />Fish and Game dumps brush into the road to attract fish. As an <br />orgCani ation, we control our people informed Mr. Nee. ' He noted <br />that there are several organizations listed to use Mashpeeaeby <br />that he has never heard of. <br />r. Nee also indicated that any tournament over 25 boats i <br />required to have an Environmental Protection Officer ptesent on <br />site at their expense. <br />7: p,m. Selectman Caffyn closed the Public . Hearing. <br />Selectman J-accbson indicated her concern to allow residents <br />to utilize Mashpee Wal eby and other ponds -in Mashpee, We have to <br />give consideration to the residents and people who lure around <br />the. por:{d indicated Selectman Jacobson. <br />Selectman Jacobson recommended to review the early nk rhing <br />starting times and speed limit. We should consider not accepting <br />any more applications for tournaments at this time and allow our <br />residents to use the pond on weekends informed Selectman <br />cos n . <br />Selectman Jacobson indicated that the Waterways Ccmmission <br />will continue to work closely with the Board of Selectmen and <br />bass organizations to resolve this situation. The schedule of <br />tournaments has been submitted to the Waterways Commission for <br />r ev i e *kr • <br />
