x <br />1k <br />BOARD OF SELECTMEN <br />MINUTES <br />M NDA , AUGUST 23, 1993 <br />Present: Selectman vaooaro, Selectman Mills, SelectmanJacobson, <br />Selectman Caffynr Selectman Costa <br />Executive secretary Robert Whritenour <br />Guests: Deidre G eelishr Betty Jones, Gus Frederick, <br />Greg Taylor, Al Polsi, Catherine Conroy, Paul Ott, <br />Elizabeth Pei, William Hansenr Melinda Gallant <br />Meeting Called to Order by Chairman vaccaro at 6:30 p.m. <br />NEW BUSINESS: <br />Memorial for veterans: <br />Fred Peters, in represention of the VFW was present to <br />discuss their proposal to place four memorials on Town owned <br />property. The granite store memorials donated by the VFW are <br />proposed to be placed in the area of Ashers Path/Rte. 2, Cotuit <br />Road/Re. 13., Grow Neck Road/Red Brook Road and Mashpee <br />rotary. <br />The VFW has requested the Selectmen's support of the four <br />stores in memory of the veterans of Foreign Wars to be placed in <br />the proposed areas. <br />r. Peters requested funding in support of four 14x14 bronze <br />plagues to be set into the granite stones. The cost for the four <br />plagues i s approximately $1600 informed Mr. Peters,. <br />Selectman Caffyn recommended to review the proposal with the <br />Director of Public Wor} s and Tona Watt of the Beautification <br />Council for design and maintenance purposes. <br />Mr, Whir i tenour noted that a potential funding source for the <br />above plagues can be attained through the Building and Grounds <br />Maintenance Account. <br />***The motion was made by Selectman Jacobson to approve the <br />expenditure of $1600 for memorial plagues to be placed on granite <br />stones as recommended for the veterans of Foreign Wars. The <br />stones shall he placed in coordination with the Director of <br />Public Works and Beautification Council. The motion was seconded <br />by selectman Mills.
