BOARD OF SELECTMEN Page 10 <br />MINUTES <br />• MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 27, 1993 <br />Richard Shaughnessy re: Herring - Santuit Pond: <br />Mr. Shaughnessy was present to discuss the herring <br />population of the Santuit River with the Board. As a result of <br />present swamp conditions, it is nearly impossible for herring to <br />approach the herring -ladder indicated Mr. Shaughnessy. <br />Several methods of remediation include the re -definition of <br />the Santuit River bed approximately 150-200 yards downstream. <br />Control of the water flow during migration was also recommended <br />by Mr. Shaughnessy. <br />To screen the cranberry bog outflow canals and control <br />pollutants from cranberry bogs was also recommended to aid in the <br />renewal of the herring population in Santuit River. <br />Robert Sherman, the Conservation Agent concurred with <br />Mr. Shaughnessy's concerns. Due to complex filings with <br />regulatory boards, Mr. Sherman requested input as it relates to <br />filing processes. <br />*Selectman Mills has offered to work in conjunction with the <br />Conservation Agent, Director of Public Works, Steve Ball and <br />Mr. Shaughnessy to address this concern and issues related to <br />this subject matter. <br />8:55 p.m. <br />t <br />t: <br />Economic Development Committee members, Spyro Mitrokostas <br />and Thomas Potts were present to discuss the SEED Corporation's <br />Micro -Loan Program and Mission Statement of the Economic <br />Development Committee. <br />The purpose of the grant application is to develop a Micro - <br />Loan Program to provide direct loans up to $25,000 to small <br />businesses finding it difficult to obtain bank financing <br />indicated Mr. Mitrokostas. <br />***The motion was made by Selectman Costa to authorize the <br />Chief Elected Official to execute the application in support of <br />the SEED Corporation Micro -Loan Program. The motion was seconded <br />by Selectman Caffyn. VOTE: Unanimous. 5-0. <br />11 <br />
