OLD BUSINESS: Review of Police SergeantCandidates: Selectman Vaccaro indicated that two vacancies exist in the Police Department under the position of Police Sergeant. One vacancy will be filled effective immediately, the second vacancy to be filled on January 27, 19940 Discussion followed with regards to the four candidates selected for the above two vacancies. Selectman Va caro asked for a motion for appointment with a show of hands for verification purposes. **The motion was made by Selectman Malls to appoint Gera-ld Umina as Police Sergeant effective immediately* The motion was seconded by Selectman Jacobson. NOTE: Favorable, -. Selectman caffyn and Selectman Costa -in opposition. The motion was made by Selectman Jacobson to appoint Michael J. Laava as Police Sergeant effective January 27, 1994. The motion was seconded by Selectman Mills, VOTE: Unanimous. - . Budget Initiatives and Priorities., The Board reviewed and accepted the proposed list of Budget Initiatives as compiled by the Executive Secretary. (enclosed) Discussion for consideration as set forth by the Board of Selectmen include; Signs to Enhance and Promote Ma.hpee Full --Tice Harbormaster Department *Review of Town Departments re: Staffing *Update Zoning Bylaws create the position of Director of Human Resources *Hire a Hunan Resource consultant Harbormaster Uda: Harbormaster, Perry Ellis and Waterways Commission member, Ben Gordon were present to request approval for the purchase of an 1 .6" maritime skif for the Harbormaster Department* s noted, the suit of $8810 was appropriated at Town Meeting for the above purchase. Mr. Ellis indicated that the boat, engine and related equipment can, be purchased for the approximate appropriation. *The Selectmen favor the purchase as r eo mended .
