t i <br /> MINUTES OF SELECTMEN' S MEETING <br /> DATE: 23 June 1955 <br /> The h earl g for Alice J. Rose d/ba Hilltop Lodge <br /> scheduled for 7:30 PM was delayed until ;2 PM due to the <br /> absence of Mr# Hicks* Those present for the hearing were <br /> The Board of Selectmen, Mr. John W. Malloy and Mr. Antone <br /> Tavares both from the ABC; Mrs. Alice J. Rose and Son, <br /> Daniel Barboza. Mr. Bar°bo a pleaded not guilty to charge <br /> of serving minors alcoholic beverages after the charge <br /> was read. Mr. Malloy read his evidence which stated that <br /> upon entering he and Mr. Tavares noticed two youths <br /> drining beer who appeared to be under age . The youths <br /> .were challenged and readily stated their ages as 19 and 20. <br /> Mr. Barl _oza was then asked if he had requested identifiaation <br /> for the two. boys. He stated that he had and was shown <br /> satisfactory proof of age. I owever, . the identifi catio i <br /> was not on the person of either youth when the ABC <br /> representatives emptied the pockets. Birth certificates <br /> acquired from Cronin t s office were presented as furhter <br /> proof of the bog's ages . <br /> After due discussion the board decided to impose <br /> penalty upon Mrs. Rose for the sale of alcohol to minors . <br /> Her place of business was ordered closed. (bar and cocktail <br /> lounge only) from 1 :00 ASI Friday 24 June 55 until 1 :00 P <br /> Sunday 26 Jun 55 . Miss Peters was in favor of a minimum o <br /> . 7 days . Mr. Hicks and Ir. Aiken felt 7 days too s /ver <br /> for the particular rse. A letter effecting Mrs* Rose's <br /> suspension was written and signed by the board immediatelye <br /> The 'information will be forwarded to the ABC for their <br /> S <br /> records., <br /> '.ire Chief Deters was before the Board to further discuss <br /> issuance of fire permits nor the Johns s Bond area leased <br /> by Otis Air Force Base. Miss Peters contacted Fire Chief <br /> Cahoon at Otis AFB and a likely solution was arrived at, <br /> The idea of issuing a blanket Permit for fires to Otis AFB <br /> was favorablkyconsidered by the board. This Permit will <br /> curer the Makepeace property which is leased by Otis AFB. <br /> Chief Peters may also appoint Chief Cahoon a Deputy Fbrest <br /> Warden. Otis is also in the process of drawing up an agree- <br /> ment whereby they will assume responsibility of such properties <br /> that they lease falling within the bounds of outlaying Towns. <br /> At present there is in existence a verbal understanding that <br /> Otis and bordering towns will assist one another in the evert <br /> of fire or plane crashes. This too will be 'Included in the <br /> or .al agreement. <br />
