A <br /> vp . <br /> d <br /> MINUTES OF SELECTMEN s M EETING • <br /> BATE: 15 September 1 <br /> -955 <br /> Meeting convened at 8:00 PM. <br /> Deputy sheriff Seth Collins came before the board <br /> o request drawing for juror to serve on Ti--averse Jury <br /> commencing 10 Oct 1955. Prior to the drawing, Mrs. <br /> Gladys McKamey requested that her name be withdrawn. Mr. <br /> Frank E. Hicks repled her name. Names remaining in the <br /> box as follows : Amelia C. Studley, Clara J. Peters , Bern. e <br /> Grant , Alice Jo Hicks and Frank E. Hke k.s. The name of <br /> Alice J. Hicks was drawn to serve as juror. <br /> The Mashpee Advisory Committee forwarded the Approved <br /> Special Town Meet]Lng Warrant dated 7 September~ 19 All <br /> articl-es were approved. <br /> Officer Horace Gifford was called before the Bond after <br /> acomplaint was registered by Miss Peters to Acting Chief <br /> Hicks . The compaint was that Mrs Gifford was present at the <br /> scene of an accident on September 12th - at the Mashpee Rotary <br /> .i.rcle and as a Mashpee Police officer, declined to investigate, <br /> He had the state Police Officer summoned to investigate. Mr. <br /> Gifford stated that he was unprepared to act In his police <br /> capacity inasmuch as he was without equipment. He also Felt <br /> that he could not have handled the situation alone since n <br /> member of the Mashpee Police was available. He called the <br /> State Police in on the case. Chief Hicks reminded Mr. Gifford <br /> that it is our desire to call upon outside police assistance <br /> as little as possible except in certain uses which require <br /> state and county assistance by law such as accidents and <br /> thefts which require skilled investigation. Mr. Russell <br /> Peters and lir. Elmont Tobey cane before the board to register <br /> complaint against Officer Gifford In regard to the accident <br /> occurring at the Rotary Circle on September 12th. Mr. Peters <br /> stated that upon asking Mr. Gifford what his reason for calling <br /> the State Police to investigate the accident which was not <br /> severe in damage and no bodi1 injury,ury, Mr. Gifford stated that <br /> he had a regular job at Ponnesset Beach and could not take <br /> the time to investigate . However, Mr. Gifford was present during <br /> the investigation and accompanied the. Mate Police and Mr. <br /> Hendricks to the Police Headquarters in Yarmouth. He further <br /> Stated that he did not see the value of a Police Officer who <br /> could not handle the job. His statements were supported by <br /> Mr. Tobey <br /> Ir. and Mrs * Harry Tb , Mrs. Clara J. Peters , Mrs. <br /> Willa Walker, and Mrs. Lillian Dickinson came before the <br /> board to register grievance against present Torr Dump location <br /> and health hid presented by same . Mrs. Peters wanted <br /> to know what steps had been taken to move the location 'inas- <br /> much <br /> na - <br /> muc i as money was appropriated two years ago to purchase one. <br />
