4 t <br /> Board of Selectmen <br /> Minutes <br /> February 2 , 1994 <br /> Library 'Trustees and Mr. Polsi re: Combined Library <br /> Proposal: <br /> We as taxpayers are committed to explore all possibilities to provide <br /> the best town services at a minimum cost to the town indicated Mr.Polsi. <br /> For consideration,proposed benefits for the community include; <br /> cooperation between two town departments,increased instruction time <br /> with children,access to library material and first year savings of <br /> approximately$25,000 indicated Mr. Polsi. <br /> Mr. Polsi presented several advantages and restrictions to the proposal to <br /> Share Library Resources. He recommended the Board consider appointing <br /> special comnuttee to further explore the system for Mashpee. <br /> Helene DeFoe,Library Director and Library'T'rustee's Ondrea Robertson <br /> and Richard Shaughnessy expressed concern to the proposal to share <br /> library resources. <br /> Several concerns as addressed by Ills. Robertson include jeopardizing the <br /> LAMS membership. Presently,the CLAMS network is not open to <br /> membership for school libraries. Membership is limited to public libraries <br /> noted Ms. Robertson. Considerable brine has been spent converting to this <br /> system. <br /> The merger of the entities could also jeopardize Mashpee's receipt of <br /> regional library services 'Indicated his. DeFoe. The current location of <br /> the public library is an ideal site. <br /> Ms.DeFoe indicated that planning for an automated network to share <br /> access with the high school is a consideration for further review. <br /> Mr. Shaughnessy indicated that there is a deed restriction on the premises <br /> until the year 2016.
