Joe seconded the motion . <br /> Joe questioned the May 31st minutes . TK Thompson said they would need 35 <br /> acres for all S phases and they will have to re-visit their plans to see if <br /> i t can sti l l f i t. Is that what was sai d? <br /> The Committee agreed M r . Thompson did say he would eventually need 35 acres. <br /> He wants to see if they can squeeze their center in and then come back to <br /> the Committee . <br /> All members were in favor <br /> MEETING WITH COM ELECTRIC REPRESENTATIVE <br /> Steve Collings , Senior Environmental Administrator was present representing <br /> Com Electric to discuss eleotra magnetic fields and associated risks . He <br /> began by showing a film prepared by the Electric Powe r Research Institute , <br /> what is e l est ra magnetic fields and is there a health risk . <br /> Mr . ollings explained the current going to the wire controls the field <br /> strength . As you moved away from the source , the field strengths drop off . <br /> For example a TV can have a field strength of 25-75 mi1i9aus . <br /> He can not tell you ghat a safe level i s . Electricity use in the US has <br /> gone up dramatically i n the last few decades but the l eu l�em i a rate is <br /> steady or dropping . I f there was a true association , we should see an <br /> increase . <br /> New York and Florida have established levels of 200 - new construction <br /> cannot be within a field of more than 200 m i l i gaus . <br /> He took readings from the power lines at the 151 site : <br /> at the edge of the right of way (cleared area) it was 5 . 76 , 50 feet away .� <br /> 2 . 26 , 300 feet away - 0 . 36 . <br /> Mr . Collings then put the Daus meter on top of the TV he had just used , the <br /> reading was 64. 5 <br /> If the Committee can get the school more than 100 feet from the power line, <br /> the contribution from the line will be negligible ,, <br /> After 20 years of research , there i s still not enough evidence to create a <br /> 1 imit <br /> Bill Jones said the majority of exposure comes from within the home , have <br /> you come up with a probable level within the average dwelling? <br /> Mr. Collings said they have done a study like that, the average US home is <br /> about 2 . 3 miliaus . <br /> Peter asked how far the high school is form the power lines? <br /> The gym (closest to the power lines ) i s 1 , 000 feet away . <br /> B.ill Ma rt i ros asked if the town was taken to court on this issue , would <br /> these tests be sufficient , would we need anything more substantial from Com <br /> Electric's <br /> Mr .
