The team is the right size for this project with a lot of local experience and has the size and flexibility to service your needs . Our goal i s a first class high school for the town , teachers , parents and children . QUESTIONS Peter asked M r. wade if he was a quantity su rve yo rI He is* Peter asked about the Brookline school , the 120 per sq foot was expensive for an elementary school , did the building committee want an expensive school , whir did it come in so expensive? M r. wade said there are features built into the design that increase the cost. The high schools he was worked or ars usually $100-110 per sq foot. The architect did contribute to making that an expensive school . Paul said their team is well covered but they didn ' t to l about - rn i sh i and equipping, especially high tech. How will you advise us on that? M r *Tedesco said that is an important part of the project, high tech network, equipment, software and training. You will reed a consultant. Paul explained the committee has a consultant from the architect side, what w i l l th is team p rov i de? M r. Tedesco said that is a specific area of expertise , we will make recommendations for a consultant and it W ill be part of the Hanscot b contract. He explained at the Garfield school in Revere , they invited computer companies i n , trying to elicit donations of equipment. i tal eventually donated 1 million of equipment to the school and they use it as show ease . Merry sue said the architect will do the designing , and you will review it, how will you offer suggestions to them, can you give some e amp l es9 Mr . wade said through value engineering, increasing the value of your school . Tedesco added that design 1s subjective , it has to he a Mashpee design , our design . we can help communicate what is Mashpee , ghat is a Mashpee school . You want to be proud of it and we will help facilitate that. Bill Marti res said he read a study that said only 6 of the building costs will be ca i'to 1 costs the real expense is operating it. Do you estimate the oast of different treatments# their lifecycle costs, and operating costs to give this Committee a choice? Mr, wade said they do, They also estimate the energy costs of a system, some are more or less efficient than others , we give you lifecycle costs for materials and all systemsor Janice asked if they have ever worked with sMMA or as project manager for a owner whose architect was sMM1A M r . wade said they have provided consulting services to SMMA. we know the firms well but are not employed by them presently . Joe asked about MEP area, if we insist you work on the schematics to get the engineering disciplines to effect the design of the building positively , how will you relate with the architect to achieve that'd M r . wade said you hire the architect to do the design , we will ask them what they proposed, will react to that and adv i se this committee accordingly ,. It is not appropriate to start out tolling the designer what to use . 8
