years, previously worked with Earl Flansburg and worked on S
schools with that firm, He was the chairman of a school buildi ng
committee in his home town of Essex. He is an officer of Trustees
of Reservations .
How to get the school built?
The client in this case is a large group of people, coming from
various view points , the committee, school dept. , selectmen
faculty, students, parents, community voices to be heard ,
educational consultant, The Brookline school had a 20 person
committee and a consensus was difficult to achieve; you want
everyone behind it. There is also a new consideration of providing a
location to address social problems and concerns i .e daycare and
senior activities,
Technology in the classroom: immediate goals are to network the
school for TV, computers and video. Long term goals are to build
infra structure now for new technology, incorporate i t
mechanically/electrically so the building can be easily
retrofitted . Graham Lund Architects will help bring you into the
next century.
John Proos spoke of the project tear. There is a single source
of responsibility . The consultant team has wormed with Graham
and and on other high school projects.
Schedule: they work with a cost consultant, even before the
schematic design. It is important there be sufficient t i rye for
everyone involved to review the documents in each phase.
Operating Cost and Energy Management: they study the
configuration and orientation of the sun for natural lighting and
slay 11 ghti ng . when possible they use local materials to out down
on transportation costs.
