story building? <br /> Mr. Gund said there are definitely some savings using 1 <br /> foundation for 2 stories. <br /> M r. Po l s i asked it would reduce the sq foot cost somewhat? <br /> M r. Madsen said yes, to a degree, second stories add ADA <br /> handicapped requirements i .e. ars elevator, stairs are an <br /> expense. <br /> For the re-hab hospital they are working on they determined it <br /> would be cheaper to do a 2 story building. 2 story buildings <br /> are also less expensive to operate and maintain. <br /> Mr. Griffin said they mentioned shared parking with the <br /> performing arts center. we don' t know if that project will <br /> happen so how would they deal with that issue . <br /> Mr. Gund said the school comes first., I f there i s available <br /> space left over, you design it for the possibility to share- may <br /> be something else to share with - something the town wants to put <br /> in that area. There should be an economic use of that site. <br /> COMMITTEE DISCUSSION <br /> Bill Ma rt i ros gave the Committee a brief review of the meeting he <br /> attended with GESS, fir. LeMoura and fir. Petti . <br /> He explained the state is not comfortable with using the 10 year <br /> population projections. They will used NESDEC figures to verify <br /> ours , They want to use 5 year projections. Their propose using <br /> 1 , 180 students and therefore square footage would be 1833560, <br /> They did not like the idea of sharing the library , in the <br /> daytime. They did not say no about public use in the evening. <br /> They did not like mi ing of students and community. <br /> They did not have a problem with the size of any of the programs. <br /> They did not like the large g roup classroom. <br /> Dr. DeMoura sent a response letter with some of his questions . <br /> Can we build the core for 1350 students? <br /> The state has had more oases of schools being overbuilt than <br /> under built so they are conservative with the figures . <br /> Paul asked what is going to happen to the superintendent's and <br /> School Committee space it will not be re-i mbu rsed? <br /> He explained that when visiting high schools, the principals d i d <br /> not look favorably at having the superintendent In the same <br /> building . <br /> Once an architect is on board , you can ask him to run scenarios <br /> vs . renting space. <br /> Mr. Griffin made a motion to adjourn at 8: 10 p.m, Ms . <br /> Ah 1 g ren seconded the motion.
