Lincoln DeMoura, Ian Aitchison , Ray Bordwell , Bob aurnier, Dick Foster, Dan Salien 'asent: Joan Avant-Tavares INUTES Merry Sue made a motion to accept the minutes of June 21 , 1994. Paul Griffin seconded the motion . All members were in favor . _W BUSINESS �e Committee discussed a letter sent to the Board of Selectmen from Bill 3nes . Although it was classified , the Selectmen have said the Committee �n discuss it. The Committee reviewed it for any points that may need Cion . pint 1 . Bill feels the building is expensive and exceeds Mashpee ' s needs . xul explained he spoke with Bill . last week about his resignation . His sire to resign is truly for health reasons and it is in his best interest resign . Bill thinks the Committee should build a "box" because it is 3st economical . Paul then discussed the concerns about that design - 'inly light and circulation . Those issues were discussed with DRA and the �mmittee agreed not to build that, if they can afford it. Bill wants to �e the building reduced to house only 900 students . iy Bordwell commented . If you reduce the building to 900 students , you 71y get reimbursed for 900 students and it will be even harder to build )r $110 per sq foot because the site costs are now a larger percentage of ie cost. The building looking expensive , Ray said he hopes the Committee ired them because they can do a good ,job. They have built buildings that )n national awards that were built for $45 per sq foot. There is not a irect correlation between cost and how the building looks . He is sorry ill felt that way . This building has the program agreed upon and is less )an 183 , 000 sq . feet. Bill doesn ' t feel 7-12 is educationally sound. DeMoura spoke with the Dept. of Education . In MA. there are 65 schools )at have a 7-12 or 8-12 arrangement, out of 543 . It has to do with the ze of the community . He feels it is educationally sound and takes .ception to that statement. .ter said it seems Bill ' s preference is to build a small high school and ien build an elementary school in 5 years . Is that more expensive? tul said it is more expensive, especially the operational costs -- building ,ilities , maintenance , principal , etc . !rry Sue said she did not hear any negative remarks from the Middle School .aff when the layout was presented to them. 1
