5 mi 11 ion shartfal 1 , If we added scree reasonable cute to the building
without compromising the program) l . e 'lighting , tennis courts , practice
field it would he down to one--quarter million .
There are still a lot of items left on the table for further review . He
does not see getting the shortfall to 0 without some more detailed
drawings . The Committee also needs to see detailed drawings hefore adding
value tc the project .
Joe asked Ian if he has talked to SMMA about getting the mechanical and
electrical trades involved at this point?
Ian said he had .
Paul said at the value management workshop, the first day each engineering
department gave their view of how they would engineer the building . He d i d
not see anything that was big dollars .
Ian cautioned the Committee that it is important not to let the architect
feel they are off the hook , they will let it go . The area is QVe r by 52000
sq feet and they have not been hack with reductions . He explained Daedu l as
had never measured the floor area, when measured it was 5 , 000 feet over.
Paul said Ray told him that since i t is now on CAD , they know it iS__> a
little under the 183 , 000 sq feet .
Peter said the committee and the town need to know we are going down the
right path . The community needs confidence that the Committee is doing the
right thing and giving them a quality product .
Paul is not saying he does not want the architect to come back with
additional cuts , he would rather have another $1 million in cuts so we
could add in value . He is will -Ing to cut the architects a little sla.c
until things are narrowed down4r
Ian would like tc keep the pressure on them to meet the budget .
Paul asked Ian to keep trach of items the Committee wanted answers for and
rake sure they get the answers from the archi tecta
Ian asked if the committee gave SMMA permission to move into design
development?
Peter said SMMA sent him a letter asking for permission to move into design
development phase.
At the last meet i ng , the Committee never formally voted to give them
pe rm i e i on to move into design development phase,
Ian asked about the Tavares proposal the Committee approved last week , Is
it just to proceed with investigating the potential f c r a central kitchen ,
not to design ones
Paul said it is just a feasibility study , Is there a potential for a
central kitchen? What would be the impact?
Ian doesn ' t think Tavares understood that.
The Com i ttee is .just studying the potential , they have not made ani
decisions on this issue yet .
Next weeks Meeting :
7
