has this changed their approach?
Bob said the pitches are not so great they cannot provide roof top
equipment. HVAC will be the same, All the larger units are in the back and
w ill only be seen from the fields.
Bill said he i s concerned about the point on the administration area.
Ray said they presented several schemes to the Committee, They resolved
the programmatic issues while designing a building that reflects cape cod
and at the sane time included some forward reaching geometry and
architecture. This is the architectural tear's recommendation for the
building and they need consensus from the committee.
George costa suggested a canvas canopy. He saw one on a brick building
that looked gorgeous.
Ray said they will study the canopy area.
Joe said the height needs to be addressed.
He is still concerned about the cafeteria roof, where it joins with the
auditorium. what do they propose for snow and ice removal .
Ray said if they decide to go in that direction , he can show technically
how it will work. There will be internal roof d ra i ns t :.
Nancy asked if the cafeteria being under the canopy will limit the light?
Ray said there i s glass high on the wall and glass on the backside of the
cafeteria which will also bring in light.
Ray explained how the cafeteria functions as a breakout space for the
theater and gym.
Peter said Plymouth South high school has a similar design , You get a lot
of open spaVe without !1a ing to pay f o r it because i t functions a a
cafeteria.
Clancy asked if there will be any sound issues?
Ray said there are no classrooms off of the cafeteria or above i t. It is
about 1 1 stories high .
Nancy said the foyer doesn 't seem adequate.
Ray explained , for security reasons, they want people who enter to be
compelled to go into the office first. For other functions - gym or
theater, the cafeteria serves as the open space,
Greg noted in many schools the students are channeled through the front
entrance requiring a lot of space and that is not the case here ft
Nancy said this does not appear to be a school that wants students to go
outside, there is a obsession with security, that is sad .
Pay explained they tried to not have a "'back" to the building, The east
elevation is the "back" .
The elevations show the building built with red brick.
Peter polled the committee on the design,
Bill said he would rather see -D to get a better handle on the design, He
has a lot of problems with the canopy. Sloping roof (of the canopy) looks
like a gas station.
Ray asked if they lowered the canopy would the committee like it?
They would like to see it,
The pitching up of the canopy forces you outside when in the cafeteria,
They can add a weather canopy at the 8-10 foot level ,
4
