Alan Scott said they will have a very good sense in May where this project
is . Stone is committed to fulfilling their obligation here .
Peter said Selectmen Caffyn told him there is an estimate for utilities for
the high school to be $600 ,000 per year and the town only estimated
$100 , 000 .
Paul said it is true there is a letter from SMMA with that figure but the
estimate is definitely in error. Paul has not seen the details of how they
got to that number; they released it before he reviewed it. SMMA is re
calculating it .
TECHNOLOGY PRESENTATION
Michael Kirwin from CCR was present to discuss the status of technology
design development.
In the base building there is:
- voice cabling for telephone system, to a main equipment room.
- data cabling, from room to room back to main equipment room.
- video cabling system, 1 main equipment location.
- fixtures and furnishing package - the equipment we will bring to the site
to meet the educational and administration requirements of the building.
Voice : will include telephone system with voice mail system, auto
attendant system. The auto attendant can access an extension when there is
no receptionist on site and shed some of the load from the receptionist.
Voice Mail will have a 2 tiered approach, 1 public message box and 1 to
leave a message .
They propose a Centrex system for the high school , which can transfer
between the two schools .
Data system: computer and software for students , administration and public
areas - library. It will be a PC platform with state of the art machines
and real work software .
Schedule of purchase: they propose a second and third buy, since the
building will not be fully occupied immediately.
Specialty software : library card catalog , access to card catalog over
network. Tech education- CAD drafting software.
Some software does not have to go out to bid, you can choose what best
suits your needs .
Paul asked, to get the best pricing for the product, would we bid it to a
third party vendors? At what pint do you get a better price with a
licensing agent -- Microsoft.
Mr. Kirwin said the school is not near the scale to deal directly with
Microsoft . The vendors get the deep discounts and therefore you are better
off using vendors .
Bill said AT&T recently announced the will be providing $100 million for
education, how can we participate?
Steve said they have just started deciding what they are going to do with
those funds , it was intended to provide internet access .
Mr. Kirwin said CCR can make that connection (with AT&T) but if anyone on
the Committee wants to, go ahead.
Janice thinks CCR should be the one running to make that connection for the
2
